Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Urban Legends: Final Cut

    raulfaust — 15 years ago(December 09, 2010 10:51 AM)

I was reading some old reviews, and I noticed that by 2001 it was already 3.6. Is it normal to movies have the exact same ratings after years or is it an imdb error?

I assume that most of the time, ratings actually go down because early on, people get caught up in the hype or tend to overrate a movie at first viewing. I think the main reason a movie holds the same rating over a long time is just because there aren't enough new reviews for it to go up or down.

It's way too low. Not a good movie by any means, but 3.8? Come on.

Yeah it doesn't deserve this extremely low rating 😞

Yes it does deserve the low rating. Jennifer Morrison was terrible in the role and the cast's acting overall was amateurish.
The story, what little there was, was predictable and uninteresting. There was nothing shocking, scary or gory at all with the murders.
Urban legends? What urban legends? With the exception of the one guy who got pummeled to death with the camera lens while they were all yelling, all the other deaths were unrelated.

And here I thought the 4.0 was a little low. To my surprise, it's been growing.
I don't get the hate for this film. Sure, horror has always been loathed by critics. And there are horror classics that hover between a 5 and a 6 on this site because there are so many people who just don't get the genre. Even so, a 4 or under is usually reserved for the more putrid entries into the genre. Final Cut wasn't great, but it was enjoyable. It definitely isn't as bad as the other films that typically share the 3-4 range.
I've seen so many truly offensively bad horror films that it's easy for me to find the good in a movie like this. The production value may not be impressive by Hollywood standards, but the budget dwarfs all the SOV crap out there. It's nice to see a horror movie that is actually shot on film (in 2.35 no less), scored properly, and so on. That is the sort of thing that I miss when dredging the no-budget deeps. It's something I especially miss whenever I have the misfortune of watching some found footage garbage.

                I gave it 10/10.
this is my kind of movie - easy going funny thriller popcorn horror.
setting is right, music is perfect, story is interesting,
just as UL1 - right amount of everything.
people who can't appreciate this take life too seriously.
