Why did his retiring freak her out?

Well actually, Tucker thought he might go ahead and retire and he just suggested she consider that too. That's why the thread asks why she freaked out. Tucker just thought he was making a suggestion that she might consider so they would have time together and more for Noahand she FREAKED at the mention and basically decided to end it with him right then. Pretty violent reaction to him saying something that at his age and time put in would not be entirely unexpected.

Not right then, she did think about it while looking for Theo and shooting the bad guy and splattering blood on Carisi. That made up her mind to stay on the force.
The way I heard it, he really wanted it to be a package deal. The original poster said it didn't affect her in any way. Well, her retiring when she wasn't even thinking about it certainly would affect her.
Would he stay with her if he retired and she didn't? I don't know. He certainly thought the job would get to her, if she stayed in any longer. Maybe she read it the same way I did, that it was a make or break moment for their relationship. It appears he would be pressuring her hard to retire, if they stayed a couple. -

I meant you could tell by her over the top reaction, she would choose the job over Tucker. She keeps saying how Noah is her priority and yet when Tucker suggested a way to spend more time with him, and she and Tucker have time for their relationship too, she rejected it all.

Oh I'm not surprised at all because this the Benson MO. I've said it before, when she came back from Paris in the first episode this season without a ring on her finger I knewhere we go again. This thing with Tucker was a real bred herring this time. It actually looked like they had a future and Olivia could go into a more mature, respectable phase in her life. But nooo! Its time for Olivia to pour scotch down some new guys throat, listen to him pour out his problems, tell him she understands, roll in the sack with him, and proceed to sexually manipulate him while convincing him she "has his back" and she's the only one he can trust now because they're banging and she will keep the secret because they're "good friends" now. I'm not surprised at all.

I honestly have no idea. It made no sense. They just want her to be alone and they came up with a weak reason to do it. First it's about Tucker and then it's about the job and then it's about Noah. Olivia is too old to be this wishy washy with her personal life.

Olivia should have been ready for the outs. She has a son that she loves and adores,
HAD
a solid boyfriend despite their rocky past, and she finally seemed happy. Of course that can't happen for her and they continue to write her character down as "
selfish
" and as you said, "
me me me
" during their break up. I may not have liked the relationship she was in with Tucker, but I wanted her happy and he seemed to make her happy. She made her job who she was when she could have been so much more for years now.
Maybe she feels that she isn't meant to be happy because of her own issues with her mother despite it showing they had at least an okay relationship with her, but she made her life about her job. We've seen her date here and there, but it was always on the back burner. Tucker could have fully supported himself on pension and they could have been in a strong relationship. She made this about her and not just Noah, but she's being written that way. I don't know what the end game is for her, but it seems pretty dismal at this point.
I do hope that when this show ends that Olivia can get a bit more of a happy ending than the lot she's been handed. She's gotten some good moments, but it has seemed to get darker for her after getting Noah in her care and his subsequent adoption. Maybe there's a light at the end of the tunnel. She probably should have backed away from being a cop after Lewis and what happened with him especially after his death. I just see it as she doesn't know how to live her life without being a cop.
Honestly, it seemed so petty from her end about ending her relationship with Tucker and the thought of retirement. She's done good work and should be proud of every achievement, but I think it's time for her to be released from those shackles so she can live her life. That's just my opinion though. -

I just read an interview Rick Eid gave recently and his answer was "never say never" to Tucker and Benson. He said they separated because they wanted different things but it may not stay that way. Maybe she'll get that hookup with the FBI guy out of the way and she and Tucker come back around to each other. What it sounded like.
