Well because, much of the writing has gotten sloppy, much of the humor has become unfunny. Some of the characters traits have changed in a bad way such as Mr. Krabs has become a lot more greedy and antagonistic(he was antagonistic in the older seasons but wasn't as bad as he is now, in one of the newer episodes, Mr. Krabs scares Plankton by dressing up as a whale in which he fears, to the point where Plankton tries to kill himself by waiting for a vehicle to run him over and Krabs doesn't care) to the point where he became my least favorite character in the show, as for Patrick he has gotten a lot stupider that it's like he took his brain out of his head and in some episodes he has become an unlikable jerk to SpongeBob, Squidward is about the same but nowadays he gets tortured and injured a lot to the point that I feel sorry for him and it's like the writers hate him and to the point where I want him to win, Plankton schemes to get the krabby patty recipe has gotten very repetitive to the point that I wish they would just get a new villain for the show or have him finally get the formula so I'll now what's the secret ingredient. Some of modern episodes like Someone's in the Kitchen With Sandy and that house sitting episode copies off of the classic episodes Imitation Krabs and to Save a Squirrel. Some episodes can get quite mean spirited like One Coarse Meal, A Pal for Gary, Yours Mine and Mine and Little Yellow Book and some episodes are badly written such as the Legends of Bikini Bottom episodes( especially the Main Drain one). Many of the classic episodes were stupid in a good and funny way, while the newer ones are stupid in a bad and annoying way like All That Glitters and Shuffleboarding although there are good episodes from the post first movie era such as Have you Seen This Snail, Life in a Day, Fear of a Krabby Patty and Plankton's Pet

And here's what a Brazilian dA user by the name of Jos Reinaldo Monteiro Iglesias had to say about the newer episodes:
I couldnt really understand why the fanbase SUDDENLY feel the urge to say the show is gross,speacially when it was already established that old spongebob episodes had indeed gross moments here and there.About One Course Meal,I'm sorry to say this,but I actually DO like this episode,and I found the so called "Suicide Joke" really,really dumb. Want I elaborate why?Here go;
The first is that I want to make perfectly clear,is that Mr.Krabs ALWAYS was a jerk to begin with,Many people cliam that the characters when they got in newer seasons is that they became jerk, though that is not quite true(I just won't list every character that it was a jerk here because it would be a too long list and i want stay on topic).Mr.Krabs is just a greedy that could do literally everything just to for don't pay additional bills or lose beep STOLE a oyster egg and refused harshly to don't throw away a rotten hamburguer just to don't waste a few cents to buy a new one.Besides,we all know how it is the relationship between Plankton and Krabs,They both fight for years, destroying the property each other just because a recipe of the hamburguer,in they are arch-enemies,It actually should be expected Krabs did something like that soon or later. Also, about Plankton and "Suicide joke" thing,I really didn't think it that bad.I just re-watched OCM to try remember what the suicide joke was,and after i get what the joke was,I facepalmed.I facepalmed SO bad, that i'm actually thinking what is the mental age of the fanbase.Stomped.Yes,that's right, they actually complained the fact Plankton wanted to be stomped.SO WHAT?I mean,we have seen Plankton being stomped before, squashed by a fatass, have his restaraunt blowed and at last, but no least,BEGIN STOMPED BY A CROWD IN THE MOVIE.and he still he did made it out okay.I believe even if Spongebob did stomped him right in the act in that episode,he still would be fine,If that episode it was supposed to show something that is "disgustingly offensive",the it should have at least something really,REALLY inpolitical incorrect or Dark humor there,Not a half-assed poor excuse to suicide that we have seen a bazillion of times before. I understand if feel upset about it,but i personally think it is just plain dumb. Also, the fanbase did what to who?.Wow..I mean,WOW.for a comunity that now like political correct things, this do contradicts a bunch of things.I mean,is like you're trying to estinguish a bonfire with a flamethrower,It is dont is the right answer. For people that judge a illogical cartoon with logic, you could say..They don't think much about reasonable things.Tum dum tss Okay.sorry for the bad joke, but really, the fandom is messed up.
Oh,the infamous 9/11? That actually could explain a bunch about this scene. But my main reason to mention that scene, its just to show how hypocrite the fanbase is,If you look at the comments a bunch of people wished that scene wasn't removed from the episode, and wanted other scenes from new episodes removed instead. As much unpleasent the toenail scene is,I have to say that in a inpolitical incorrect contest, that deleted scene would won toenail with no sweat.I mean,is ACTUALLY teaching kids how to mix fire with gas, this is way worse than you lose a toenail. But then again,Spongebob is a cartoon that does use dark humor occasionally,so i'm not impressed.Oh and btw, that about kids what kids do this day is also very true, best of examples is Call of Duty and TF2,both are flooded with 12-15 year old boys.To finish the topic i don't really think i have anything to counter-argue or match with the Toenail scenes, except for ONE episode: Tea at the Threedome.Just.just that episode. Is basically the episode that debuts Sandy in the cast,I must to say is a good episode UNTIL the part when Spongebob visits Sandy's House, thats where the got messed up; Spongebob can't breath in the air.My god that was AWFUL.I mean,we actually watched Spongebob suffocated in the air,If it was at least supposed to be a quick joke, but no,for the majority of that episode we watch him struggling to breath, and yet he still have to do it for don't cause a bad impression on Sandy. When i saw this as kid,it left me complety horrified, til this day that scenes is still unsettling for me.You know what is worse? Is that the fanbase ACTUALLY praise that episode very much and still consider one of the best ones.Justno.
But thats pretty much what i have to say about this subject. -

when Squidward and Krabs play a trick by having a hook seemingly pulling Spongebob away and embarrasses him in front of the girls)
That was to teach Spongebob a lesson about be wary of his surroundings and not trusting hooks
But i do agree Tea at Treedome was pretty bad -

Physical torture in the worst manner possible (Tea at the Treedome has Spongebob suffering toward death from lack of air, along with the heat)
You're joking right,it was done in a very cartoonish way,and it's still had great animation (you know this traditional animation looked way more organic than nowadays),'meaningful cuts' and likable characters, and just to say more positive energy to it.
And tell me one episode of old Spongebob as bad as,let's see.
Are you Happy Now ?
A Pal for Gary
One Coarse Meal
The Splinter (is this a episode or one long sketch ?)
Atlantis Squarepantis (really boring,disappointing special)
Truth or Square (same here)
-Yeah i took this list from TheTopTens,do you care ? -

The episodes are a bit different from what most viewers fell in love with in the first place, but I liked Season 4 and beyond when all the episodes first aired, and I still like those episodes today. I think because the animation and writing is different, a lot of people are turned off the post '04 episodes.
