Now, I have heard Sam's age was supposed to be 23, however, I haven't been able to confirm that in either early script drafts that I've seen.

The ages of the characters are interesting since the actors' actual ages, Emily Perkins is a year older than Kris Lemche and four years older than Katharine Isabelle. And how the hell was Sam supposed to be 23. He looked like he was still in high school, or at the very most JUST out of high school. It's suggested that Trina was his ex anyway, and she was about Ginger's age.

I'm just reporting what I heard off a fan site. I can see Sam as 23 or so. Somebody can look young. He wasn't in High School. He was more mature than the high school guys. And he was more serious, like he had learned something about life.
I can't believe Sam and Trina ever went out. (Though Brigitte and Ginger plainly did at the beginning.) Sam didn't seem to treat her like an ex. He treated her like she had no idea how uninterested he was. Trina acted earnest, "You've got my number" is what she said. If Trina were an ex, that would be a given.
No, I see Trina as having such a crush that she's delusional about Sam's interest and spreads a lot rumors (fantasies) about them. She's a popular high school jock who can interest every guy in her class, but not Sam.
And why is she so interested, besides he's hot? He's older. Trina dating him is like a high school junior dating a guy in college. Plus, he's the drug dealer. A lot prestige in certain circles.

Yes, he was 23. It was in one of the scripts I believe.

Yes, Personally Emily Perkins and Kris Lemche would have great onscreen chemistry BUT personally If they added in some stupid little romance subplot between Brigette and Sam it would've ruined the movie for me. Their relationship was very much just a friendship and that is what made it so fantastic, This film portrayed a man and a woman being friends without some Rom-Com crap when they realise they love eachother. Its very rare that happens in movies.

I would have lost respect for Brigitte if she got romantically involved with Sam because it would have made her concern for Ginger questionable. I would have lost respect for Sam for distracting Brigitte. Turning into a werewolf should focus somebody's mind.
As it was, the two showed just enough intriguing chemistry to suggest they would have become romantic if thing had gone right.

To be honest I feel if they made a romantic subplot with Sam and Brigette
(of which Hollywood has a likely chance of doing if this was remade)
it would drift away from the real plot of the movie - curing Ginger. Not only that but it was both their goal to cure Ginger and to put a romantic subplot over it might get the feel of "aren't you supposed to be finding a way to cure Ginger?".
You have your opinions I have mine.

I think the OP was hypothetical because you, Freeist and I all think that a romantic subplot would feel wrong in this film. If Sam wasn't torn to beep shreds by Ginger and they made a happy ending out of it (
) I think it would certainly be implied in the followup.

                        Totally agreed.
It's not supposed to be a romantic movie and that's what I really enjoy about it.
Brigitte and Ginger are sisters and one of them is cursed with some werewolf-demon-plague something. I really don't see how someone can fall in love under these conditions, so I'm glad that Brigitte gave Ginger priority until the end.

I never really saw any attraction from Sam towards Bridget, when Ginger accused him of so he said he did not see her in that way, a moment where I always cringed for Bridget because I could imagine her sort of liking Sam but never doing anything about it but maybe having that daydream that he could, which then Ginger has taken away in that instance.
Ginger and Trina seem to think he could because Trina calls him a cherry hound, I assumed she had lost her virginity to him and now as we see he blanks her and she feels that is what he wants only off Bridget, where as we know it is about the werewolf transformation. Something that probably far more interests him then girls throwing themselves at him like Trina.
Ginger also thinks the cleaner is after B, this I put down to her maturing into a woman and seeing it everywhere however B has not transitioned yet and is not till the 2nd movie where she is sexually pursued.

I always read Brigitte as a lesbian, especially after watching Ginger Snaps 2.

How would you figure that considering she nearly pounced on that dude?
As to whether Brigette and Sam would make a good couple, well, if the problem with Ginger wasn't there, or if they had managed to cure her (completely), then yes, absolutely.

As was said earlier in the thread, Sam said to Brigette that he didn't see her in
                                that
way. Whether he was put off by Ginger or not is a possibility. He thought if he got close to her, he might get punished somehow. Trust me, you don't want to mess with teenage girls. If they don't do something themselves, they can get droves of guys at their beck and call to come and sort you out, even if you are the local drug dealer. Thing is, Ginger didn't need anyone to do it, and Sam may have already been suspicious that Ginger was the one infected with lycanthropy and not Brigette. He only revealed to Brigette later on that he knew.
Jeez, it couldn't have been that hard to notice Ginger's teeth, which were already starting to show, although it only being the first time he had seen her up close, personally, perhaps he might have assumed that it was just her natural bite, and the teeth were "normal".
In the script Brigette also admitted to having used Sam to get the treatment. I think if they had lived through it, Sam might have become distrustful towards Brigette. That and the age gap might have made a difference.
I know in the script, particularly the first one I believe, Brigette was supposed to have a crush on Sam, but in the film, I wasn't so convinced. Or it might have been that he didn't necessarily feel the same way. There were mixed signals.
I think if Sam had lived through the ordeal, Brigette would have become too distrustful herself, and too independent. She was not known for getting romantically involved with anyone.
