Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Ginger Snaps

    Morbius_Fitzgerald — 11 years ago(September 13, 2014 10:18 PM)

There was another post on this board that stated that one of the towns that a character from Orphan Black lives is called Bailey Downs. So you could make the argument that not only is the Ginger Snaps movies set in the same universe as Orphan Black but this must also mean that Ghost is one of the clones of Sarah.
Anyway, thats my little fan theory about this film and Orphan Black (its not really a theory in the sense that any fan of both the movie or the show could have figured that out) but how plausible do you think it is?

I would almost say you're right, except I noticed immediately the Bailey Downs in OB looks in no way as ugly and wretched as the Bailey Downs in GS. I mean, at the beginning to GS, just look at that hole! It looks like one of the bolgias of Hell.
Now, maybe BD has expanded since Ginger went lupine and it now has an upscale neighborhood, but the two are so different they look like they exist in alternate universes.

Well I blame that on filming within a genre. You see because GS was the outlook of a couple of bored, suicidal (kind of) girls, it makes sense to film it in a bleak, boring, landscape style of shooting. Whereas the one in Orphan Black makes it look like just a normal suburbia because its where Allison is raising her family. So you could make the argument, again, that Fawcett was filming both with the perceptions of the characters in mind. To Ginger and Brigitte, Bailey Downs was boring and horrible. To Allison and Sarah, its more suburbia and because the characters aren't the key defining trait of the show, I'd say that the one in GS was merely how the girls perceived it.
Plus, to my knowledge, there is no such place as Bailey Downs outside of John Fawcett creations so what other explanation is there?

Probably, but Bailey Downs is introduced before we've met the sisters, with an aerial shot, that neither of them would see.
There is another explanation, and that is John Fawcett doesn't mean them to be in the same universe. Though he might someday introduce another insane clone nicknamed Ghost I tend to think that would be just another tribute and not an indication that the same events that were possible in the GS universe were possible the OB universe. In other words, different fiction-verses.
Plus, to my knowledge, there is no such place as Bailey Downs outside of John Fawcett creations so what other explanation is there?
          Actually, there
          is
another Bailey Downs: in the the film
          It's a Wonderful Life
that's the name of the suburb to Bedford Falls that's built from financing provided by George Bailey's Savings and Loan, and therefore named after him. No, I don't think John Fawcett meant GS to be taking place in the same universe as
          It's a Wonderful Life
(though a mash up might be hilarious).
I think perhaps John Fawcett chose that as the name to show how wrong the suburban paradise idea had gone: conceived in heaven but executed in Hell.

I can kind of think of a mash up. You could do a thing where as the girls are about to carry out their pact, their guardian angel appears to show what life would be like if neither of them were born and (tell me if you've never heard this spoof of
            Its A Wonderful Life
) it turns out that Bailey Downs would be a much happier place without themand it ends with a two on one fight with a werewolf thats still terrorising the town and they learn as long as they have each other nothing else matters.
Actually, someone make that. I need to see a Christmas story that involves two teenage girls fighting a werewolf!

A Christmas Horror Story is also set in Baily Downs.

Just an update on this - I've found another movie with the town Bailey Downs. This is it (
). However, as is, now I know it, this movie is making me picture the Fitzgerald's tearing Will Shatner to shreds.
