Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Ginger Snaps

I never gave it much though until I came across this on wikipedia in relation to this specific GS movie:
" Because the film links lycanthropy to menstruation and features two sisters, Ginger Snaps lends itself to a feminist critique. "By simultaneously depicting female bonds as important and fraught with difficulties, Ginger Snaps portrays the double-binds teenage girls face." and "Ginger is an embodiment of these impossible binaries: she is at once sexually attractive and monstrous, 'natural' and 'supernatural,' human and animal, 'feminine' and transgressive, a sister and a rival."
I feel that quote is mainly focusing on Ginger's aspect of what females represent, while Bridget is the exact opposite: late bloomer, book smart, shy, scared of change, follower, dark hair and dark eyes, "a beautiful personality", etc. but then after overcoming being compared to her sister all her life, she breaks free and becomes more independent, brave, stronger, confident, she is more street smart in a way and grown up etc.. I see them both as two sides of the same coin. Also, this exchange between the Fitzgerald sisters makes it even more obvious:
G: Poor B, i'm growing up and obviously your not!
B: Yeah like I always dreamed of doing drugs with guys and sucking off Jason McCarthy..
G: Well, you always wanted to be me! storms out
Also in the movie, the mother, Pam, tells Bridgett that she does not always have to listen to Ginger and they are not attached at the hip.
BUT honestly, in my opinion I feel it depends on the sisters as individuals if they are going to be rivals or not. Some sisters or brothers can get along, others can't. Ginger and Bridgett are 3 years apart in these movies, sodoes that count for anything? Ginger is the alpha and Bridgett the beta respectively.
Some people grow up early in life, others are late bloomers. But in true fashion, we don't even get to know Bridgett or notice her until she finally escapes her sisters shadow in GS Unleashed, manifestations of Ginger and all
The more personalities you have the less boring you are!

Honestly, I didn't really give it thought until I read this postodd. Especially considering I've loved this movie since I was 16 (I'm 20 now).
