This movie is ruined by its sequels

I'm re-watching Meet The Parents right now. I'm binge watching the trilogy even though the third sucks. The first is great, the second one is almost as good, but the third one shouldn't have even been made. It tried to hard on recycling the same jokes after so many years. I should have known it was going to be bad the first time I saw it when Dustin Hoffman, who originally wasn't in it, decided to film a few scenes as a way to try to "save" the movie.

I wonder if someone here has seen the original.
You know, the film this was a remake of
I haven't and I would love to.
I guess universal made a good job in keeping it unreleased.
I think that could explain the sequels -

After everything Greg and Jack went through in this film, they go back to square one in Meet the Fockers. I know it's just a comedy, but still. I wanted Dustin Hoffman to just punch Jack square in the jaw. He was in the wrong. He's a guest at their own house, and he's still intimidating his future son-in-law.

I don't feel a movie's sequels have to ruin what made the original so great.
I'll admit the two movies following Meet the Parents weren't as good as the original, but that takes away nothing from how good and funny the first one is. It's still a classic that I can watch anytime.
So many stories, so little time.
