Why did she have a new man every month? And why, at least in the case of Keanu, was it necessary for him to live with her? And why, at the end of the month must he leave?

Some months she didn't have a man and October did so well that he was asked to leave early.
She believed she could help them learn what they needed to have a better life. A month was long enough to be effective but not too long to become attached. She knew she was dying and had accepted it.
