this may be a pessimistic take on the movie, but in the end when sara is saying goodbye to keanu with the scarf on his eyes, she faces the park bench on the bridge, personally i think she jumps off, wouldnt that be a bittersweet ending? it seems like something she would do.
    what does everyone think??

I'm not sure, there are some reasons for which I doubt that (especially her determination to make the best of the time she has left). But I know how it feels to see your life energy and body fading away everyday, each day worse than before and to know that no one can do anything about it.
I know I would've taken my own life following that moment. Then again I'm not her (I'm not even 'a her'). Like the other guy said, she's not giving up and determined not to. All she wanted was to be remember as the life-addict happy and beautiful person she was and not allow anyone to witness her decay.
I guess that's the reason I love the movie: the story.

Yes i definitly believe that is impression they we're trying to give, when she was saying goodbye to Keanu she told him she was going home now, they were expecting/waiting for her. She stood facing the bench turned her head only to look at Keanu and that was it, when he took the scarf off he looked down the path in both directions but never over the bridge. I agree it was a bittersweet ending but he'll remember her zest for life and not the sight of watching her die. I loved this movie

Earlier in the film when Keanu told her she should make up with her sister she said she would someday. So I just figured when she said she was going home she meant it literally. That she was going home to make up with her sister and die with her family around her.

I thought that from the first time I saw this film! (See my "Ending" thread).
But then, people up here seemed convinced that her saying 'I'm going home' meant she was literally going home to her family. That her saying to Nelson "This'll give you enough time to get your things' meant she just needed him to move out, since she was moving home again.
It seemed odd to me that if Sara was going to jump, why did we not hear any cars screeching to a halt to come help her? I mean I doubted she'd jump IN the street, as she didn't seem the type to hurt any innocent people. But surely cars would stop?!
And if she wasn't going to commit suicide, why show the big sweep of the highway and use such "final" sounding dialogue with Nelson???
                  So I am so confused!
"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
                  "Didn't he discover America?"
                  "Penfold, shush."

The movie does sort of give the impression she was going to jump, but I highly doubt it. Reality wise someone would've noticed a chick falling off a bridge (most likely). Also, I doubt she would've wanted Nelson's last image of her to be him looking down at her smushed body on the concrete. Just a thought.
Of course movies aren't reality, so maybe she did jump and no one noticed. I think the ending was more - she disappeared and was gone. The movie was from Nelson's point of view, so after she left it's basically like she is dead because he never saw her again.
