I found this movie absolutely awful

I'm utterly amazed about the high grade this movie got on IMDB. Ofcourse, its partially subjective and I do not LIKE all the movies with high grades, but even then I can normally UNDERSTAND why people like it.
Not with this movie. This is what makes me curious about what people do like about this movie. The plot is thin and filled with holes, unable to grap my attention. The fighting and other action scenes are never really cool. It surely is not a classic, and the story is not appealing at all. The characters are out there somewhere, but they do 'help' to narrate a proper story. In summary, a flat movie filled with mistakes.
The thing is that I like these kind of movies, thats what bothers me even more about the grade. What is so appealing? What is it that I don't see? Help me out here.
My biggest deviation between my grade and the 'IMDB-grade' this far was about two points. But I gave this movie a 3(a b-movie, not worth it to watch). -

Oh wow. I honestly thought this movie would have a 4/10, maybe 5/10 score on imdb, after watching.
It had potential, but that just went out the window 15 minutes before end. The final boss fight was so ridiculous, I sat with an open mouth, with no apprehension of how this ever could be intergraded into this type of movie.
Anyway, in the end, the movie felt empty, just another "bang, shoot, boom".
How.. why People don't stop to amaze me. -

Yeah this was originally a long post, but I made it into a review. So I'm left to say with: I absolutely agree OP.
Hell it didn't have to be Matrix or Blade Runner, it would have been fine by me if it would have been all cheesy not taking itself seriously like Judge Dredd. But this mummer's farce? I really can't see any redeeming qualities to this movie, everything about it was awful. Well the acting was somewhat fair, if you want to blame the screenplay.
As it is, it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen 3/10.(PS not English so disregard my spelling/grammar please)

Awful? It was worse than awful! It was a nullity, stunk, so bad it wasn't even bad.
Seriously, if you put together a 13-year old's understanding of 1984, with the Apple commercial of 1984, and cheapo Matrix ripoff tricks, this would be the result.
This must be Bale's worst performance. He usually does an American accent very well. In this movie he sounded as if he was imitating an imitation of a US accent.
He should be ashamed of this, not Newsies. -

That is probably the reason why so many people rate it that high - it pretends to be a clever movie, and therefore makes them feel equally clever, while in fact they are just watching a B-movie version of The Matrix.

While the look, feel and and even the premise of the movie contained extraordinarily high levels of cheese, the story itself still managed to pull me in and keep me involved until the end.
Back off!
Way off! -

I love it when morons over analyze films, Like they are some kind of Oscar board wannabe like the Op of this thread or believe every film released should be the best film ever made.
This film is a Sci-Fi action film, nothing more and should be taken as such. I really think the OP has spent to much time in his basement. -

Usually I agree, its subjective, USUALLY. This is one of those extreme cases where I cannot find any reason at all to like this film. The movie makes no sense and breaks its own rules. Terrible acting/dialog, zero originality, over the top melodrama, and abundant cliches, all while taking itself VERY seriously. By all definitions it is a bad film. Bad sets, costumes, script, plot, SFX, continuity, props, cohesion, and logic.
If it was meant to be a comedy, then it is great success!
There is no way around it and no explaining away the ridiculousness.
