Now I liked this film, it had a interesting plot. although I find the fighting scene excessive, but still entertaining. I dont understand why people keep setting 8-10 really!? I see allot of people either 1 or 10 for films. if I give a film 1 its so bad I turn it off, and 10 I give to exceptional films mostly cult films. I gave this film a 5 because I find it entertaining, but really it is a dumb film.

The premise of this film is silly. It contradicts the long history of governments inciting emotions through propaganda.

Because it's a great film with an actual point unlike many in the genre.

I'd say the Matrix had a way more interesting point that this movie.
This movie is flawed in every way it could be (characters showing emotions, very little explanation of how society works, society upholding fascist (hitler-like) values to avoid a hilter-like situtation again, etc)
From the get go, they tell us that society and the State fights against the human being's inhumane way to treat one another.. OH OKAY! So the more humane way to treat one another is to shoot on sight anyone who commits A MINOR CRIME or burn them alive. Sure.
I'm still clueless on how people without any emotion, form couples and have sex. Oh so, under the influence of that drug, we don't have any emotions, but we still have primal instincts, such as sexual attraction, YET we don't kill anyone because we don't feel hate?!
Uh! I'm sure the psychology community is thinking "cool story brah!"
The only point this movie had was that, even with a plot composed with diarrhea from an awful screenwriter (here's to you destroying Total Recall, Wimmer), Hollywood understands that it can make pure sh!t into a movie, yet with cool gun-fu fights (okay, the action scenes are indeed cool), they can still make big money!
Yet, when they release horsesh!t like Twilight; we call those people (the fans) idiots for liking a stupid plot.
BRAVO, society! You are doing great!
Let's rate this movie because of it's "awesome" (yet lacking any explanation aside from "dude.gun-fu!") and be douchebag hypocrites about anything we don't like.

Firstly you're being very inaccurate in your assessments and half-assed analysis concerning human behaviour, and it honestly seems that you didn't understand the movie at all. Maybe you should re-watch it, but with a less cynical and pissy outlook from the get-go.

Yet, you still have to prove me wrong. As a critic of this movie, I've sustained how the script is crap (it's a popular opinion too), but as a critic of my critic, you show that you can structure an argument like a 5 year old.
So go ahead, and show me you're not all talk. Hell, I'll even pick which part i think would be most relevant for you to argue (which in my opinion is the main reason this movie was pure diarrhea script wise).
This movie is flawed in every way it could be (characters showing emotions, very little explanation of how society works, society upholding fascist (hitler-like) values to avoid a hilter-like situtation again, etc)

I'll even add this : BOTH main antagonists show emotions throughout the movie (smile, scream, annoyance). So what? plothole? The medication isn't 100% effective in killing all emotions? Oh okay!
And for your information, I've seen the movie thrice so far. Still analyzing how this script is pure beep You could ask "derp herp if you such hater, why watch it and complain". Because, I love action movies and this is a decent ACTION movie. However, as a whole, it is awful and deserves a 6.5 at best (only for the cool action sequences).
Action flick like The Matrix or Die Hard would rape this little puppy in the a$$ any day of the week.
Can't come up with something better than an unwitty comment? Deal with it and accept your opinion on a movie might differ with other people's opinion.

Die Hard doesn't really try to be intelligent, EQ does eevn if you think it doesn't succeed, so no to that line.
And in your last sentence, you claim the guy has to respect other's opinions, though yourself was straightforward taking everything as fact ("Action flick like The Matrix or Die Hard would rape this little puppy in the a$$", "as a whole, it is awful" etc..). So..

You are absolutely hilarious. Do you even understand why fiction exists? It is obvious that you are lacking in the creativity departement. The point of this movie was not to show you how humanity came into this kind of existence or how the drug works. There are many ways to explain the so called "plot holes". Just because such a future is not possible in our universe doesn't mean that it is not possible in the universe of Equilibrium. People behave differently, historical figures made different decisions. Either way it doesn't matter, bad decisions were made and people with malicious intentions came to absolute power. They took control of society through fear and obviously this drug.
Secondly, the drug itself is not known to us. Drugs in general don't have the same effects on people, or at least not the magnitude. This drug's purpose is to dull emotions (it obviously is not capable of completely killing them), but it works better on some people. Maybe it suppresses certain emotions more than others, on a case to case basis. This is why there are sense violators; it didn't work well enough on them. This is also why some characters, such as Brandt, show anger. It is his dominant emotion. There are many alternative explanations, but my point is that these are not plot holes. You can feel free to introduce any other gaping plot holes.
I agree that the movie has flaws, as it gets substantially weaker in story as it gets closer to the end. The action aspect of the movie dominates, but it is still not bad. You fail to understand this movie. It is trying to show you the importance of freedom, the importance of emotions to human nature. Without emotions, we are nothing. Just surviving so we continue to survive.
The movie also shows an interesting alternative future. What would happen if our emotions were removed? And what would a man go through once he has regained these emotions? It shows Preston's blank shell slowly fall apart, each one signified by some kind of new emotional interaction. Bale does a great job of showing these new feelings break through his cold-blooded facade. It is true that some of these scenes might have to much exposure, but it's really a matter of taste. I didn't mind the puppy scene. It didn't need to be there, but it was not cringe worthy. Nor does it have to suit ME in order to exist in the movie.
People like you should just stop acting like you have some kind of superior taste. You're just making yourself look bad; you're not making anyone feel inadequate or stupid for liking the plot.

There's a difference between liking a movie and being a fanboy sycophant. For example, I like "super troopers". It is an entertaining comedy, but if someone said it sucked as a film I would have to agree. I won't bicker and moan when someone points out the obvious. If you aren't secure enough in your own opinion to be honest with yourself, you have some maturing to do.
Also, if you have no emotions you are either a psychopath(not too good for peace) or catatonic(not very productive), literally. There is no way around it. Since this movie takes itself SO seriously, I cannot overlook such an integral and all encompassing plot hole. As a satire/parody comedy it is quite good, except for the sets, costumes, acting, and pacing.
I can only hope it makes it to MST3K someday.

But look where it got them. Every empire crumbled sooner or later. So why not try a new approach? People are not gonna rise up against you if they are indifferent to your tyranny. Totally makes sense to subdue emotions. You can exploit emotions to make people fight each other to rally them against an enemy. But if you're just planning to keep the peace, emotions are a threat.

But Inception so tedious long and drawn out and did not have the subversive element equilibrium did. It was just a special effects orgy. So many new movies are missing the whole human being thing in favor of action and mindless music or special effects. This movie had heart and guts Inception did not.

I agree. The rating does not make any sense whatsoever to me. I find it hard to imagine someone liking the movie enough to give it a 10. I'm sure many people liked the action and I get it. But a 10? I can't fathom it. While it was interesting and didn't bore me or anything, it still seemed very ordinary. Not more than a 5 for me too.
