Which actually makes it even worse than it was in the first two seasons.
I think other than Doogie Hauser MD and Quantum Leap, Enterprise might possibly have
the
worst theme music in the history of American television. -

I liked the song just fine until they changed the music and tempo. I thought the original opening was upbeat enough without sounding like pop music but when they changed it I found it depressing.
I'll take this shows opening song over the 3 min of credits every other ST show has Jesus it takes forever and gets insane grating when watching it on a Chromecast cause you can't fast forward accurately -

For the record, the reason the song is so terrible is written by Diane Warren, the crowned queen of schlocky pop songwriting. She wrote or co-wrote numerous songs that were huge hits during the 80's and 90's, which made her the obvious choice to write a crappy pop ballad, which was apparently the direction Paramount/UPN/Whomever decided they needed to go in.
In fact, I think that might be one of the reasons I stopped watching the show originally after the first couple episodes: because the theme song was so terrible! -

I must agree with the OP. I'm just finishing the third season via Amazon and thankful it's relatively easy to skip the entire title sequence and music. I've heard both versions and both already sound incredibly dated. That's pretty typical when "pop" music is used rather than an orchestral arrangement.

I agree, that helped contribute to how bad I thought this series was. It was a total disappointment to me when I watched its first run. I like it a bit better now but I think it's the worst of the 5 Trek TV series. That opening credit song is lame. I wanted your typical / normal classical type of theme.

I LOVE the theme song, but it's better in S3 and S4. WHY must all Star Trek theme songs be classical compositions? I mean, I LOVE classical music, but I thought this song rather appropriate. What is the big deal? Does everyone else play the theme songs every night before going to bed? Honestly, get over it.

That song (both versions) is HORRIBLE! A soft-rock ballad? Who thought that was a good idea for Star Trek? With that awful sounding, pretentious singer doing that fake 'gravelly voice' schlock. Ugh! Don't get me wrong, the lyric and tune are fine, it's the smarmy, easy-listening arrangement and the later country 'music' version, and irritating vocalization that makes it suxxorz so hard.
Zefram Cochrane would NOT approve!
EDIT:
Actually, I read the lyrics and I take it back THEY ARE AWFUL!
Rhyming 'here' with 'here'??? LAZY.
"Faith of the heart?" What does that even mean?
It's awful. I'm watching Season 4 now and I anticipate that horrible song so I can jump on it and hit mute. I never want to hear soft-rock-power ballads ever again.
