I agree with you I really don't know why the hate for the music, it along with the opening visuals showed humanity growing up and moving on with technology.

That song (both versions) is HORRIBLE! A soft-rock ballad? Who thought that was a good idea for Star Trek? With that awful sounding, pretentious singer doing that fake 'gravelly voice' schlock. Ugh! Don't get me wrong, the lyric and tune are fine, it's the smarmy, easy-listening arrangement and the later country 'music' version, and irritating vocalization that makes it suxxorz so hard.
      Zefram Cochrane would NOT approve!
      EDIT:
Actually, I read the lyrics and I take it back THEY ARE AWFUL!
      Rhyming 'here' with 'here'??? LAZY.
"Faith of the heart?" What does that even mean?
It's awful. I'm watching Season 4 now and I anticipate that horrible song so I can jump on it and hit mute. I never want to hear soft-rock-power ballads ever again.

Agreed. I've never listened to all of it, skip it every time.
Though during the 'alternate universe' double in S4, they completely change it (and the visuals actually) and it's much better, but sadly they didn't replace it with this one, otherwise i would have sat through it.

Definitely a love or hate issue amongst Star Trek fans. I found a song with lyrics fitting for a time period closer to our own but I did not like the "country" rendition of seasons 3 and 4.

The theme is annoying in itself, but what really grates me is the complete and total lack of any acknowledgement of the Soviet/Russian space program in the credits. Many firsts in space were Russian, not American and without them we wouldn't be able to sustain any presence in space now.
Credit to the producers for including Chuck Yeager. That was a nice touch.

I'm quite a soundtrack fan and I love all the Trek TV themes, including Enterprise.
My initial reaction when I first heard it back I'm 2001 was WTF? but it grew on me quickly.
Don't get me wrong, I don't easily assimilate to pop songs either for such a TV concept but I felt it suited the mindset the show was aiming for.
Also I actually hate the Rod Stewart version, but there's something about this rendition that I felt suited the show.
I sadly didnt get to see a lot of the episodes when it initially ran on 4 in the UK so I was so happy to get my teeth into it on Netflix. I've about 10 episodes to go til its all done and won't be happy when it is.
I admit I've whizzed thru the opening credits a lot but only to get into the story. Occasionally though I will just listen and I actually have the whole song on my phone. Its an indulgence, but an enjoyable one!

Actually, I think E has the best opening of all the STs. I like the tune, but never much even paid attention to the words. Beyond the first two lines, even now I'm drawing a blank. Something about pain in my heart, I dunno
The imagery is fantastic, though exploration and the pioneering spirit, past present and future and is probably one of the best openings of any teevee show (except for maybe "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "UFO" 😄 ). Both 6MM and UFO get you instantly up-to-speed as to what the series is all about. E's theme pretty much does the same thing, albeit in the abstract.
The tune itself fits perfectly with the imagery, and the guy's voice is pretty good, but yeah, the lyrics kinda suck. Whaddya expect?, it was made for "Patch Adams"
But frankly, I got sick and tired of the droning themes of V'ger and DS9. TNG's is okay. Lukewarm on TOS's.

I guess I'm in the minority but I love the theme song and opening montage. I feel it really captures the "explorer" feel the show was going for. In particular, I really like seeing the footage of Alan Shepherd and the original astronauts. I like how it showed that everything that happens on Enterprise was a result of the first explorers.
Hate Seasons 3 and 4 though.

                      Yes its awful.
                      No it doesnt change.
                      I always skip it.
I would like to point out that other Star Trek shows dont have great music either. The one from Voyager for example is ENDLESS. Its more like a full song than an intro song.

I love all the theme songs of all the Star Trek series except this one. It is horrible. Dramatic fully orchestrated compositions are Star Trek's style. This hokey guitar ballad with bad singing is not epic enough to be Star Trek. Any experienced Star Trek viewer will undoubtedly have the first reaction I did, "What the Hell !!! This is awful !!!" I watch it on Heroes and Icons. I always change the station with my remote until the opening is finished.
