Does it get better?

A wild west anime seemed like a dream combination, I bought the box set and have started watching it, watched the first four or so episodes and I'm really not feeling it, it seems a bit too goofy. Does it pick up and maybe get more serious later on?

It definitely does get better, I was not fond of the very first episodes (I watched it after CB and in comparison at first it did not feel that great), but then I watched the second half in one go almost! As the poster above said, once you know the reason for the goofiness, things make more sense, and the series goes a lot darker later on.

I'll echo what the others have said. there is an episode in the second half where things shift dramatically. They show hints of things in the earlier episodes, but as they go on, you start to see what they've been hinting.
I think it goes from 'good' to 'omg'
I too am childish and hate to lose.

I have finished the series and I must say it did indeed get better. I thought there were some pointless episodes but on the whole it was very good. Wolfwood was by far my favourite character!
The final battle was also amazing! I wish there would've been more battles overall in the series, for instance I would've liked to have seen Wolfwood and Vash's attack on that house full of enemies but it cuts away! Ah well.
Someday I will check out the movie they did too! -

Oh great! Glad you liked it.

I adore Vash and Wolfwood, especially the growing relationship between the two. Wolfwood's feelings towards Vash in particular. And Meryl's of course.
Yeah, it would have been awesome to be able to see that shootout, but they probably didn't want to take that time away from the story they wanted to tell. Oh well.

Oh no problem!! I felt the same way about the first three eps, but it doesn't stay that way. Gradually at first it gets a bit more serious but by the time you get to episode six or seven, you start to really see the darkness. The second half of the series is REALLY dark.
And despite his goofiness (Vash doesn't completely lose that ;), Vash is not even CLOSE to being a wimp. It just pleases him for people to think that. Keep watching, you'll find out. To say more would be to spoil things.
I'm hopelessly in love with Vash, and have been buying and wearing a lot of red in his honor. You'll find out.

Yes this is true. Vash is one of the deeper and more considerate of all the anime heroes. He is very calculated with his goofiness.
I forget which episode number, but it's when they introduce Legato and his associates that the show really takes off.
I got nothing. -

Yeah. I think it's Diablo where it REALLY starts hitting the fan. Episode 12 I believe. That one is one of my favorites.
