Why does Erika sleep in her mother's room?

When she has her own room? Is it because her mother has some sort of hold on her?
Also, Erika's room doesn't seem to have key, but her mother's room does.
What do you guys think?

Either her mother insists she sleep with her, or Erika feels the need to do so. The viewer is left to make up their own mind.
I think Erika needed to sleep there. Maybe out of loneliness, or fear, or a need to feel close to her mother in some way.
Someone who read the book could probably shed some light on this. I plan to read it but haven't gotten to it yet!

Not to sound off-handishbut seriouslywhy does she do ANYTHING that she does? The answer is provided by Walter after he reads her "letter": because she's totally messed up, and needs a lot of professional help. That pretty much sums up the entire movie.

She has a fusional/almost symbiotic relationship with her mom, where her mom has a lot of power over her, it also explains her masochistic tendenciesreproducing these relationships of power where they at once fight against eachother and at the same time have an extreme need for closeness and unity. Her mother is the dominant one in the relationship, the sadist that she seeks in a manso she has all control over her life, by calling her, not giving her a key or a private sphere. The absence of a father to separate them made this kind of a symbiotic dynamic possible and also made it impossible for her to meet a man and have a normal sexual relationship.
