Raped her anyway if she kept refusing his advances? (even without her weird games) I think he's always been a rapist but since he's so good looking no one has ever turned him down.
i hope you choke on your bacardi & coke!

It's the "Go away closer" routine that every southern belle knows. So long as she was distant, he was attracted. But when she turned into her masochistic self, he played the other role, the sadist. Just a kid in a totally novel situation, who can't ignore his id or his 'programming'.
We should ask Ben Rothesberger about this phenomenon.

His character was complex though not as complex as Erika. He is presented as somewhat shallow, wanting to impress and attract Erika's attention and admiration. But his infatuation deepened and there were moments, it seemed, of genuine desire from him towards her. I'm pretty sure that he raped her because he wanted to have sex with her and he was using what she had written of her desires against her as he was angry. His character seemed to change and become darker after the incident in the toilet. He seemed to take her injuring her pupil as a sign of reciprocated passion. I don't think he understood her desires and the infatuation between them was a complete mismatch.

I didn't see Walter as a rapist, apart from that one scene which is hard to determine the 'did he or didn't he' aspect of it. But that's a different thread being debated.
Walter was just a ladies man with very little experience of women ever saying no to him. When a woman did reject his advances, he relished the challenge. I definitely do not think he would have raped anyone under any other circumstances. The whole mind beep that neither of them understoond within themselves regarding sadomasochism led to this. Walter in some ways thought he was doing what was required of him yet still felt messed up over making himself into this person. After he did what he did, he promptly removed himself from the situation. In my opinion, it was because he detested himself for what Erika was turning him into. So no not a rapist. -

Yea I don't think he was a naturally bad guy. I think he got on a slippery slope and he fell the hell off. He wanted her, he wanted her badly and after reading her letter I think he was repulsed but a dark side of him was turned on as well. This woman was so desperate, so willing when she showed up at his practice, he caved and gave in to his desire.
She frustrated him so much that it was probably somewhat cathartic for him. He gave in to the dark side and basically wound up raping her. It's a very very jacked up situation. Once he decided to give in though, I think he did "go bad". I don't think he was just playing the role, I think he was living it.

I also think he wouldn't. He stopped plenty of times even while doing it asking her to react. And it took him a long time even to come to the point of having aggressive sex with her. If somebody is a rapist, I imagine he would grab the first opportunity, whereas he was rejecting her wishes for half of the movie. I think that during the rape, he was probably drunk and in the end just wanted to finish everything and leave.
