Liked the series, though not as good as "Prime Suspect" or even "Inspector Lynley Mysteries" in my book. Spoiled for me by the dominance of Trevor Eve's character, whom I found intensely dislikable. Eve's character, no matter what his reasons, was just the typical arrogant, bullying and patronising middle-aged Englishman put in charge. He was nowhere near as good at his job as Sue Johnston's character, who should have got a lot more screen time. I think Eve only came into his own as a sympathetic actor in the final episode and one of the final scenes(?) after his boss gives him the 'gold watch' speech and Eve screams back "You have no idea what I've sacrificed!"

The main characters are not necessarily meant to be perfect. Some are flawed more than others, like the main characters in Cracker, Wire in the Blood, even Prime Suspect. It makes them more human. I happen to really like Trevor Eve's character.

I agree, I love Trevor Eve's portrayal of Boyd. He's temperamental and hypocritical but he cuts the bull****, wants to get down to solving the case. This show would have fallen flat without his presence. Sue Johnston's Grace, is the much needed calming influence on the team.

It was a great show, one of the better shows of its type, if want a hold hands and love each other show watch most American cop shows, or watch an American show if you want to know who did it in the first minute of the show, do not watch Waking the Dead if you want easy and safe solutions you will be disappointed.

I liked him in the earlier seasons as although he was loud and overbearing, there was genuine empathy, care and humour when dealing with the team and the people involved in their cases. He also wasn't quite as pig head and arrogant in the beginning.
But as the show went on he became more unpleasent and selfish. It became all about his ego, the whole team constantly placating him and bending to his whims.
Please consider me as an alternative to suicide -

Well, the lead seems histrionic. I understand yelling sometimes, but he will yell the same thing five times in a row without anyone being able to tell him the answer already. It's stupid.
I actually think the emotions are often overdone and off on this show. I think it is confusing, like watching those old Japanese movies with the dubbing way off. -

Too much yelling STOPS people from being productive?!
The armed forces would disagree methinks!
I was in the Royal Air Force and don't recall an NCO ever NOT yellingas i did when i climbed the promotion ladder. A polite request fails to register with people, which might explain the knife wielding little thugs roaming the city streets here in the UK! Teachers aren't allowed to chastise the little darlings these days, in my day..i'm 48, you didn't only get shouted at, you got the cane!
In situations that really matter..shouting gets results, be it in the work place, complaining or driving your point home. I shout VERY loudly very often, using a modulated tone gets you a smile.and nothing done! -

Yes I agree with the other poster. Sure if you want someone to haul ass, yelling nonstop gets the adrenaline pumping, but if you are asking a question, yelling the same thing a half a dozen times doesn't get you anywhere if you refuse to listen to the answer or trying to motivate someone in a cerebral endeavor.
