I understood the movie but I don't get it at all. Almost nothing really makes sense. So Muir and Bishop work together in Berlin and then Bishop really messes up in Beirut, Muir sells out his girlfriend to the Chinese (Why? Out of spite? He didn't know about her before. Or to isolate him again?).
And then Muir suddenly turns around, gets a heart of gold and risks not just his retirement, not just prison, but retaliation against the US from China?
It's either totally out of character for Muir or what we see in the movie is just for show and how Muir manipulates the bigwigs and things actually played out much differently. It would make sense that Muir would downplay the bond between him and Bishop to remain in the confidence, and overplay how rational and cold blooded he acted.
Why even tell these stories with all the details, and why tell them how they really happened and not change or embellish them for the bigwigs? It almost certainly has to be BS.
So if it wasn't Muir, how did Hadley actually get into the Chinese prison?
Maybe the whole story about turning the cousin and doctor into an assassin was total BS?
Maybe Hadley is actually Muir's fifth wife and he and Bishop were working together the whole time to get her out?
PS: Of course that is pretty far out there but it's not impossible in this spy game. Something isn't right with the story as told to the viewer.
