actually they did say that his entire savings were what was transferred to china. but that was just what he had saved up
he just retired from the C.I.A
the average C.I.A earn 105 thousand a year and that is as of 2010
the movie is taking place in the past so his salary was probably a lot less but none the less the same accounting for inflation so its safe to assume that he would still get a good retirement -

I don
t think that Muirs actual life savings is $282,000 on his retirement day from the CIA in 1991. Muir is a guy who gets the job done. And he is always abroad, so not much time to spend a lot of his own money, I guess. The other guys will believe this life savings if he had "four wives", which may had been in his plan by saying my life savings to make the story more believable to them. Also it seems he had no kids, and he owns a Porsche. No, I dont think hes screwed, whether the money was his or not. -

It wasn't even really his savings. It was just assets that had been joint owned by him and that MI-6 operative in China. I assume it was stocks and a small property or apartment that was used as a field-office in Hong Kong.

Hes just forged the documentation to make a military commander break into a chinese prison which resulted in probably several chinese casualties and would put the countries on the verge of war with each other i think theyd want to execute him

There are a set of cut scenes, scenes that did not make it to the cinematic version of Spy Game, that can be seen on the DVD Special - among these scenes is a more comprehensive, and violent, act of the SEAL's taking the prison. This involve them cutting one Chinese prison guard's throat, and being in an extensive fire fight which results in the potential KIA of several Chinese prison guards.

If "Diner Out" failed, probably. But it didn't. They would have to shut every one up (Bishop, Muir, Elizabeth, Commander Wiley's outfit, Duncan). Theses guys are bureaucratic pussies. That is way to be much heat for them to bring down. They just gotta sweep it under the rug and move on.

Muir within those 24 hours showed that he had more intelligence or at least more guile than all the others in the room put together.
Yes , i'm sure it probably was his life savings, but he is intelligent enough to recover it all within a short time.
It was a tough call for him but he knew what he was doing. Like he said
"Noah built the ark before the rain".
A guy like Muir would have a backup plan. -

agree.
i believe it was his life savings. one of the reason why this movie was so touching. he gave his all to save Tom.
i don't think that he would have a backup plan at that time, but since Muir is such a intelligent guy. he can always find a way to earn money.
no worries. -

It was his life savings.
There is proof of this at two points in the film: First when he is negotiating with the Chinese guy who has the authority to turn off power to the island. He goes backwards and forwards and he ends up giving him as much as he had in his account (282,000). Second was when his contact in Hong Kong said "it's not like it's your own money" he pauses and looks depressed for a second or two.
Also I think he did actually plan to buy that place in the Bahamas when he retired, which was 282,000 so it stands to reason that he would have that in his account. Which incidentally backed up his story to his superiors when they found out about his wire transfer to the caymans. -

Nathan is already in the Bahamas after the CIA.Also,I do believe that he has more money than $282,000.Aside from that, he also will be away from spy life considering the actions of his last day in the CIA.
