he was, but the Captain states that "he got a motar in the face this morning", and Bishop was the closest and had the highest kill count, so he was inducted into Phoniex to make the hit.

ok, chill buddy, its the internet, not a war field. And if you listen close, 'nam music and helicopter rotors cover most of it, but Muir states: "I was sent in to find an ARVN sniper who'd been with Phoniex for most of the war."

Green Beret=Special Forces (United States Army)
Navy SEALS=Special Forces (United States Navy)
USMC= branch of the United States armed forces responsible for providing force projection from the sea (component of the Department of the Navy)

ARVN is Army of the People Republic of Vietnam. The sniper was not a US serviceman. He was Vietnamese. Just in case this helps anyone else understand the scene.
Just adding to your post Winchester. Not arguing. Not sure what the guy before you was freaking about though.
