There are rumours NBC is making a pilot. Which American actresses would you like to see play Kath and Kim?

speaking as an american, i think personally we would ruin the show i love kath and kim the aussie version. we took the office and made it ours i still love the british version better. and now if we take this we'll kill it too. i think stick to the original is best.

No! No! No!
Kath & Kim are Australian through & through! It just could not translate as American. Some things can be remade, but some things can not! Examples of American remakes gone horribly wrong- The Office & Men Behaving Badly. Thank God the American Ab Fab never got made! Certain types of humour just can't be taken out of their cultural reference without destroying them, and this is one of them! I know of many Americans who enjoy it just as it is. -

I would think that they would do an American version with American actresses about American life. You'd probably have the same relationships represented, mom and daughter w/ the husband, the friend, etc. But i love watching the original. I have afeeling this wont work out as well as the network executives think. "The Office" works because every country has workplace environments like that. But i just dont know about this one

Why bother making an American version!?
Kath&Kim IS Australian and any other version wouldn't work.
The commedy is in the whole aussie suburbia thing and the superb characters in the show. As a non Aussie and a non Yank (Welshman) I say leave it alone!!!
Now it's 'O V A H' over!!!!! -

Who knows how it'll work out. I visited Oz last May and got the opportunity to see Kath and Kim. I loved it..hilarious. If they make a U.S. version I'll watch to see how it works out. But come on you negative types..how are you gonna know what its like until it comes out? I like both versions of the Office, they have their own personalities. One or the other may not be your cup of tea so to speak but everyone has like and dislikes.
I'm sure the Brits/Aussies/French/Kenyans..ect have made remakes of shows made in the US. No one country has a lock on talent not us in the US or anyone else on the planet. IMHO
But to get back to the original question that started this thread I might like to see Leah Remini or Amy Poehler. -

An American version would be completely different but the concepts of the characters and relationships etc. would be the same. I'm an Aussie and if Jane and Gina are involved with the writing I'd like to see how it goes! If it ends up being really bad then we can just have a laugh about it and go back to watching the Aussie series!! LOL!
Come on Aussies - "Give it a fair go" hahahaha -

The Aussie version is brilliant because it is a mockery of all things Australian (love it!) So why wouldn't the US one work? As long as they don't do The Office thing (quote the pilot word for word) it mightn't be too badThe US will just have to find the things about them that they can laugh about.
And, Mel Gibson is actually American, he was born and lived there till he was what, 10?
Take him back!

Sounds like you're all very bitter down under. Would love to visit Australia sometime. I've heard it's beautiful. Too bad you people have such a chip on your shoulder about Americans. I'm sure Hollywood would run itself just fine with or without that Aussie imagination that you all refer to with such pride.
were not bitter or anything we just think that a show about suburban australian life wouldn't work if it wasn't..what was i thinking..IN AUSTRALIA

People dont have a chip on there shoulder about americans it is just the americans taking an original idea, turning it american, claiming it as its own with dodgy laughing machines and lacking in everything especially quality. It kills the whole idea of the original and is a little bit arrogant that the americans edit shows when we all speak the same language.
If i sound a bit anti american, my mum is one and she feels the same way about the re makes of shows.! -

I think when they translate the base story (middle class life) they will probably come up with something like Married With Children. Except without the fat jokes, sexist jokes, or anything to make it funny in the ultra PC environment Hollywood is going through now. So I think I already have seen a US version.
