Wow. Maybe you should give up on liking comedy. You already lost me at Kath and Kim not being hilarious but then put the final nail in the coffin by calling Seinfeld boring and unfunny. Maybe comedy as a genre is not your thing.

While double the fist was hillarious it was never going to appeal to a mass audience. That's why it had a bad timeslot.
Arrested development was treated even worse by Seven. It's on Mondays at 12.00am or 12.30am or whenever they can be buggered putting it on. -

Shows like Little Britain and Kath And Kim are character-driven comedies. You watch it because you enjoy and like the characters, not the sketches. I agree - they aren't the most brilliantly-written series I've ever seen but they are fun (which, I think you'd agree, is one of the main prerequisites for TV comedies).
I mean, I was watching the League Of Gentlemen on the weekend, and then started watching Little Britain. It was so repetitive, and (compared to League) poorly-written, that I ended up switching it off and watching the commentary on League. At least Kath and Kim has a plot in each episode, unlike LB which just rehashes the same jokes in different settings. That said, I think some of the characters in LB are pretty funny, like Vicki Pollard and Daffyd.
I never heard of that comedy you were talking about on the ABC. Where can I see it? Unfortunately it is just nasty fact of the industry that if a shows doesn't rate, they get pushed back and taken off the air. It is a rare show that is given the opportunity to stick it out in TV.

Just bought the series 1 DVD (had only ever seen a few episodes before) and I think it is brilliant, and I'm not from Australia. Most of us have seen the dire Aussie soaps so can get what Kath&Kim are parodying so well!
They are both fantastic character actors and there is some great comedy writing and observation going on. Love it.
So, you don't need to be from Australia - do you need to be from Slough to get the Office? Torquey to get Fawlty Towers? -

Hey there!
This show was recommended by an Aussie friend. I liked it so much that I just got my own copy of Series 1-3 (Costed me a fortune, though!).
I am not from Australia but I LOVE this show. As an Indian, the accent was hard to understand but once I grasped it, I liked it very much! Everytime I watch, there seems to be something funny which I missed earlier. -

I have seen all the Australian comedy that has been made in the last few years and the worst is not Kath and Kim, it would have to be in this order of worst to not so worse:
- Ronnie Johns half hour/The B-Team/Pizza (undisputed tie, mainly because I don't give a stuff)
- Let loose live
- Comedy Inc.
- Kath and Kim
- Big bite (only gets this slot becuase of Mr. G, if he wasn't in it I would say second spot)
Worth mentioning: Rove Live (not in the list because I can't tell if there trying to be funny, Zing~!)
Best to not quite the best: - Micallef P(r)ogram(me)
- Micallef Tonight
- We can be heroes
- Eagle and Evans
- Welcher and Welcher
Best of all time: - Micallef P(r)ogram(me)
- Full Frontal (95-96)
- Late Show
Worst of all time: - Ronnie Johns half hour/The B-Team/Pizza (undisputed tie, mainly because I don't give a stuff)
- Comedy Company
- Bullpit
There that should put an end to the madness, and BTW none of the Australian produced comedy is on the same level as everywhere else which is a shame really, though Micallef did a good job.

Heyplease keep the U.S. bashing to a minimum! I'm American, and I love K & K. I am sure some of the references and in-jokes go over my head, but I think this show is hilarious. Personally I find it translates quite wellcluessless people in the 'burbs are the same in any country.

Well apparently they played the show some College in America (I can't remember where exactly) and they all thought it was a serious documentary on the Australian way of life. I think this is where the reputation has come from.
Probably that and the way Yanks have taken other Australian comedies like Crocodile Dundee.
I'm not bashing the Americans. I'm just saying that usually you don't understand our style of humour.
But there is the odd one to come out of the States and find these shows funny, such as yourself, so it's not all bad
Game. blouses!
