Yes, Viggo would be good, great actor, sure would bring a lot to it. The one thing I read once that I thought was perfect was Bruce Campbell. Granted much more campy than would be expected, but when I think about it I really like it, but maybe I am biased

Nope, they'll probably cast Keanu Reeves.
Keanu Reeves always gets cast in these things just because he was in the Matrix, and he's always a disappointment: messed up Constantine, gonna mess up Sandman.

When I read the books I had Viggo Mortensen/Clint Eastwood in my head 😉 Roland isn't supposed to be very attractive so Timothy Olyphant for me is a big no no. Roland should be older, more haggard. He's more like Clint Eastwood than any young, wholesome, handsome actor. Someone mentioned Stephen Moyer in another thread and I wouldn't say no to him being Roland. The actor needs to be able to pull off a quiet, hard, world weary attitude.

I think Timothy Olyphant is possibly the worst suggestion I've heard so far (not counting the Creative Team, who at the moment are the right group to turn the series into piss).
I always thought Viggo had the look, but wasn't sold on his acting. After seeing Eastern Promises I say he should definitely play the part. Some people have suggested Daniel Day Lewis, and although I hate him, I think he could pull it off also.
So now, if Ron Howard and Akiva Goldman (who is straight up terrible) drop out and are replaced by someone along the lines of Alejandro Jodoroswky, and Viggo signs on to do at least 4 films and no TV show, I'll be happy. Since I don't think this will ever happen, I'm going to steer clear of this mess.

I couldn't agree more. Very dissapointed in the choices for the team - very commercial choices. It's obvious that such a large endeavor is being mollified by persons with solid commercial success in order to ensure a decent profit margin.
Something so full of possibilites deserves a much more visionary and risk-taking team.
I'm alomst scared to see what neutral trip is produced under the guise that "the masses cannot possibly absord something so complicated as the DT."

I'm thinking maybe this should go to an Italian Director, seen as the books are pretty well inspired by spaghetti westerns (among other things). Maybe someone like Giuseppe Tornatore, and if that happened we'd most likely get Ennio Morricone for the score Wouldn't that be a dream?

I Think Guy Pearce Could make a good Roland.

I also thought Timothy Olyphant, mainly because I've been watching Deadwood lately. Someone said Daniel Day Lewis, but he's too old already, albeit being as close to perfect as possible.

i wish clint eastwood wasn't so old but in my mind (my DREAM) i see Kerri Washington or rutina westley as Susannah, viggo mortesen, stephen moyer, or keith caradine (from deadwood) as roland, and casey afflek or ryan gosling as eddie. i think christopher walken would be GREAT for walter / man in blackhe's sooo creepy!
hailey joel osment would have been the PERFECT jake but he's way to old now. they may have to get some no named boy to pull it off (just as long as it isn'r jayden smith!!). maybe Colin Ford? he's from tennessee but if someone could work on his ny accent, he could pull it off.

Olyphant is too pretty. Roland is a tough ruthless rugged handsome but in a different way than Olyphant. I think Josh Brolin would be a better choice. His acting on True Grit, Jonah Hex and No Country for Old men has me convinced that he could play Roland perfectly.
Remember Roland was not really a very nice guy and he would sacrifice anything and everything for the tower.
