Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Teenage Caveman

    popejohnny — 19 years ago(August 29, 2006 01:16 PM)

I want that hour and a half of my life back.
I sat through this movie last night, and was appalled. Not at Larry Clark, and not at myself for being duped into watching this, but at the producers. With the amount of garbage Larry Clark has dished out, why would anyone fund this? And even moreso, why would anyone want their name associated with this movie once they saw the final cut?
Like Ken Park, Larry Clark has taken another good story and ruined it by adding unnecessary (and boring) sex scenes. Really, I gave up on wanting to see boobies in a movie after Porky's. I'm as liberal as the next person, but some things are just take away from the message/art.
The acting was horrible, but it was to be expected. The cast was young and inexperienced. The writing and dialogue were atrocious making this one of the most unrealistic sci-fi movies ever made. And then the story itselfutter crap. It could have been salvaged, had he not included those 3 (count em!) gratuitous sex scenes. It really did feel like I was watching soft-core porn. And not even well-acted porn either.
Ken Park (which incidentally had some of the same actors) was another example of this. Good story, ruined by unnecessarily uncomfortable sex. If I wanted porn, I could have downloaded some.
My point is, someone needs to stop Larry Clark. Far removed from the days of Kids and Bully (which were both provocative because of their subject matter/content but not quite as gratuitous with the sex), he has produced nothing but garbage. Hollywood, please hear me outstop this man from giving us more garbage, and force him to give us something of substance again.
As of now, he's lost a fan for life, until he redeems himself. Spare yourself, don't waste your time and money on this movie.
P.S. I won't comment on wether or not this movie is "real" or the actors "really died". There is no movie available on DVD that shows people actually being killed/murdered. Get real!

Care to elaborate on that? I agree, Kids was a great movie, and even Bully was good, but nothing (I can't stress this enough) that he's made since then has been even worthwhile. Not even looking at it as art. It's pure crap. I can elaborate further if you'd like.

Yes, Another Day In Paradise was classic Larry Clark. It was also made in 1997. In the past 4 years (since this atrocity was made), he hasn't filmed anything worthwhile. Ken Park would have been an amazing movie, had he not added those unnecessary sex scenes. I would have been more than content if he just referenced them, instead of showing full-on teenage masturbation (Ken Park), or boring 15-minute-long soft-core porn (Teenage Caveman). You can't tell me that those sex scenes added anything to the movie that a simple reference couldn't have.
