While watching this film I thought I had turned on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN).
Did anyone notice that a good number of the actors in this film are actually non-American Natives? Eric Schweig (Inuit), Graham Greene (Oneida), Gary Farmer (Cayuga), Nathaniel Arcand and others all hail from Canada. In fact, the actress playing Dr. Fitzgerald (Tina Keeper) is a Member of Parliament representing the Churchill riding of Manitoba.
    Does this say anything?

We indigenous were here before the were borders. Native American, First Nation, Indigenous - from Canada to Peru and in between (and no I am not speaking of Latinos but pure indigenous who still speak there own language and not the conquistador's language)

You disinherit the latinos based on them speaking in spanish while you speak in english?

I wrote in English b/c if I wrote in my indigenous language you wouldn't understand what I just wrote. No one is disinheriting anyone.

But they are American Natives, they all belong to a people that lived in America for thousands of years prior to Europeans & they still live in the American continent. Canada, as well as South or Central America are still 'America', the American continent? They're obviously not from the USA but that doesn't mean they're not American Indians or Natives of the land.

well, you've all said it already but i will too. national borders came long after native people.
and also, the borders put a meaningless line down the middle of single tribes, such as the Blackfoot and the Ojibwe.

Let's get off this American Native, Native American, etc. These are PRE-AMERICANs. Period. Here long before any Spanish or Italian dude ever landed, believe me.

I studied a class on First Nation's Philosophy at University of Victoria. One of the major points brought up in the class was that "race" didn't make you "First Nations/Native America" but rather following the beliefs, philosophies, practices, and lifestyle made you "First Nations."

Beautiful movie! I love the fact this movie have actors who are Indians. I am sick of white men pretending to be Indians in movies!

As a White American I have no problem with it. I think its because some of the bigger Native stars are Canadian. Chaske Spencer was in it, but this was before Twilight made him famous.
I like to see Native Americans coming together, regardless of their respective countries. They have the right to support their country, but I hate to see them divided. I've seen some of it in comments. It breaks my heart. I feel like they should support each other. Its nice to see them do that with this movie, and with other things.
