This film has one of my favorite endings. Even though it's an oldish film now, I don't want to spoil for newbies
The cricket game at the end! How sweet to see the Dad and Joe bonding like that? It really shows that Jess achieved complete happiness at the end - soccer, university, best friend, boyfriend, family approval. Very tidy, but who cares..makes me smile every time I rewatch it.

      yes it truly is
this film is so charming. it is very touching. the story is quite moving, and the actress who plays jess has huge charisma, she is unbelievably attractive. i just wanna hug her.
the story/plot is well done, etc but the thing i like most is the 'feel' of the film. it evokes emotion. also it reminds me of the climate surrounding films in the early 2000s when there was a more coherent consensus across the cultural divides. now it seems the consensus is to go in 1000 diff directions, all of them from a cell phone screen. (is that an oxymoron?)
i love this film. saw it when it was out but it was nice to revisit again today.
i found it had a similar vibe to 'hundred foot journey', another one i highly recommend.

The entire point of the ending goes back to the scene in the Airport where Joe says "We can't lose all of our best players to the Yanks." Later on Jess says " I am coming back for Christmas, we will talk to my parents then." As you could see her father was playing Cricket with Joe in the Spring and Summer so obviously he accepted them as a couple. He understood that she is a great soccer player and the one way that she could return
home is to let her be with Joe. At the same time he can have fun playing cricket again ( something he stopped doing because he was banned from the Cricket Club).
