Yes, she is from New York, but there are different New York accents.
I have an aunt from Brooklyn and it's very different from a regular New York accent, probably Queens is different as well, John Mcenroe is from Queens and his is different from a regular New York accent.
Marissa Tomei is from Brooklyn too, I'm sure she's lost some of it, but it was very pronounced in My Cousin Vinny. -

Generally, only southerners, New Englanders, and New Yorkers have pronounced regional accents. Everyone else sounds kind of bland and generic (I'm a southerner but I spend part of my childhood in California so I don't have a southern accent).
I don't know about girls, but guys seem to find southern accents sexy. They really eat up the whole Southern Belle thing (a result of the popularity of Gone With the Wind?) -

Ive never heard an accent I didnt like, Im mid british and only have to drive 10 miles to hear things change. Its so cool, wherever you are from, to have an accent, and of course brits/americans always seem to love each others accents

When I travel abroad I often get positive comments on my American accent. I really dont have a strong dialect though. I have that commercial like telemarketer voice and accent. I could be from anywhere in the US.

hmmm. I'm australian, and personally I couldn't care less about accents. However, I don't mind the American accent.
It's funny, when I travelled to America a few years ago, I was so used to the accent that I thought my own voice sounded weird. Do people like Aussie accents? -

That's funny that you thought your own accent sounded odd.
And I LOVE Aussie accents. One of my professors back in college was from Sydney and I loved going to his class (and it wasn't because I liked Marketing Management).
Too bad he was significantly older and married

I love Aussie accents, too. When I was in college there was a TA for my general physics class who was Australian. I loved going to his help sessions just to listen to him talk. Unfortunately, I still didn't understand physics!

American accent is ok, wouldn't say I find it attractive or anything.
The problem with Americans is they expect us English to all sound like Hugh Grant, which the vast majority of the population don't!
If all American women are like your friends then I'm tempted to move out there! lol
