I think it comes down to the individual being racist so I wouldn't say Asians as a whole are racist. But I will say that I am white and I have been performing Indian dance, Bollywood and traditional for seven years. I have danced solo and with groups before, with white girls and Indian girls. People have always loved how racially diverse our group always is and I agree its great to see both Indians and non-indians dancing Bollywood and traditional dance together. One year our group was invited to perform at Dilwali, i was so happy because I had never been to one. But I was really shocked when I showed up though. The Indian people at Dilwali were very cold and mean to me, my mother, and the one other white girl who was dancing in the group. But, after my group performed, it was like magic, all the Indian people were very nice to me and the other white girl! They all said that our group and our dance was wonderful! But this year I asked my dance teacher if we would be performing at Dilwali this year my teacher got very sad and said, "No, I'm sorry girls, they told me they only wanted Indian dancers this year." I was crushed because once we danced and the Indian people were nice I had a wonderful time so I wanted to go again. I guess they couldn't get used to the idea of a white girl putting forth the effort to learn about their culture, so it was racist. But, like I said before I don't believe all Asians are racist! I don't mean to offend anyone, It was just an example of racism that I have faced.

Aw that's awful! I'm guessing they were intimidated by it, but that doesn't make it right. You deserved to perform like anyone else.

It's always nice to see a well-cultured white person.

I call it racism either way. Can you give specific relevant examples from the movie you'd like to discuss?

For instance, when Jes was telling the other girls about who she couldn't date/marry & she excused by saying it was 'just culture'. (Or something to that effect.)

Throughout the movie, Jess is caught in the middle between Western culture and her traditional family, whom she loves very much. It would not be realistic to picture her fighting every possible battle against her parents, all the time.

It wouldnt be realistic, but it would have been nice for another character to point out how backward & racist it was.

They all expressed how awful it must be. That's when she said it was just culture as in its not as awful to her because its what she always knew. Things were really just starting to effect her when she found out she could actually play for a real team. She hadn't thought very far past what all actually meant at that point.

But Asians sure seem to always favor white people though.

How many white Sikhs are there?
Very traditional parents like Jess's and Pinky's usually want their children to marry someone who practices the same religion.
My parents were in the grandchildren generation: their grandparents were the immigrants, their parents were the first generation born in this country, and everyone was supposed to marry only a Catholic. It took until the great-grandchildren (me and my siblings and cousins) reached marrying age that we started looking outside Catholic circles for our spouses.

I have never heard that excuse the OP mentioned except from conservative propaganda on the Internet and excuses from stupid people. Racism and xenophobia are racism and xenophobia regardless of who it's coming from.
That said, the examples you'll see don't necessarily qualify as racism or xenophobia. Asians being intimidated by whites and avoiding them because of bad experiences and wanting their children to avoid the same experiences isn't racism or xenophobia. It's paranoia.

Oh please, intimidated? Of what is there to be intimidated of? I think you have low self esteem and need to just speak for yourself.
