I doubt there were any plans for a sequel, it was probably just to show that the evil can never really be killed and the cycle will continue forever.
The movie didn't get the best reviews anyway (no idea why, it was pretty good) so a sequel would be quite likely to bomb.

I never found the ending very chilling , but the movie was a bit better than I thought it was gonna be

You won't regret it , best movie based on a STEPHEN KING book Ive ever seen , the ending of the movie is different from the ending of the book - and all the better for it in my oppinion

I managed to get it from our local library today. It was really good even though the ending was one of the bleakest I've seen for a long time. Thanks for the heads up on that one. Please do you know any more good horror films, I'm more into ghosts than gore but won't turn my nose up at gore if there's a good plot to go with it. (I've seen a lot of horror films but you might give me the names of one or two that I haven't seen yet.)

I liked the ending of this film. It makes a chilling point on how evil will always continue to survive and thrive thanks to such basic human foibles as lust and greed.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.
