The entire first scene is worthy of an 18 rating isn't it? The general tone is a bit OTT aswell (i.e poisoning and murdering the entire ship crew like that).

The opening scene is really the sole reason this got slapped with an 18 rating; although some say the films overall nasty tone and high body count also contributed to its rating.
She's psychic. We've decided to find it charming.

I doubt it. A movie with a haunted ocean liner, cursing, people getting savagely killed left and right, and a daunting atmosphere deserves an R rating.
