I totally agree with you, I think this movie is surprisingly good, and I don't say that about many films I have actually watched it a few times now and it gets better with each time. Guy Ritche is a great director.

I agree with you Culver01. After hearing the movie bashed for over a decade, I thought I'd give it a watch Perhaps expectations were low, but I liked it. Enjoyed it, even. I thought Madonna did good.
Only thing that caught me off guard is the fact this movie came out in 2002. Thought it was much recent -

Yeah, the critics were really disgusting towards this movie. They wanted to hate it, because a well known director did it for his wife who happened to be Madonna. And it was a remake, too. So they hated it in unisono.
But people were disgusting too, most of them jumped on the same bandwagon.
This movie is not perfect (in fact, some of it is very well done), but nowhere, really nowehere near as bad as it was reviewed. -

The ending reminded me of Immortal Beloved when Beethoven leaves a love note to his mistress and she never gets it from the Hotel keeper who hid it under her meal tray. ALl those years they spent apart because of the note never being delivered. So sad.
The ending to Swept Away was heart wrenching to see him see the love of his life leave. But he would never follow her because in their phone call after being rescued he told her "now you are back in charge" when he fell in love with her. He told her " I will do whatever you say" he loved her so much and did not know how much until they were rescued. He was tested to find out he loved her more. He though she failed the test by returning the ring in the envelope and that because she was in charge and he would do whatever she said, he took the ring sent back as her saying to stay away that she did not want him. Such a sad misunderstanding.
I would like to see a sequel where a decade later they find each other again by bumping into each other.. Something like that movie Before Sunset sequel to After Sunset.
End of line.
