The 3.3 imdb rating is really stupidly low!

I have seen this horror film several times since I own the DVD
and it really isn't so bad and despite all of the hate I gave
it an overall rating of 5. Not one of the better horror movies
of the genre though certainly not one of the worst I have seen.
The critics were not too kind to Feardotcom at first though
I usually do not pay much attention to critics reviews of most
horror films. It is not that bad of a story and movie watchers
really expected too much when it was new in 2002. An original
thrilling and entertaining horror movie which is worth seeing
for anybody who has not watched it by now.

Thank you for the reply and you also enjoyed the horror film and
did not find it such a bad movie. My one issue was with the CGI
used in the scene for the obviously fake Madagascar cockroaches
who had menaced Denise in her apartment. The visual effects
were quite poor and the insects did not look at all scary nor
realistic! And Madagascar roaches are actually docile and do
not attack people! This has been confirmed by entymologists.

Where's the originality? They stoled Ringu's concept and somehow managed to produce this sh*tfest. A "3.3" is actually pretty generous; I only give it a "3" because I liked the color palette and I've seen "Alone in the Dark".

Around the time this came out on video (not much longer than it was originally released) I rented it as part of my scary movie watching fest that I have every Halloween. I couldn't make sense of the movie but I thought it was because of the crappy, box style 20 inch TV that I had at the time, with a picture that rolled.
They had this on Xfinity on demand so I could watch it on my tablet last weekend. You know the movie is bad when you cursor over the progress bar to see how much of it is left. I could only watch 15 minutes of it that first night and the night after that I had trouble sleeping. Guess what? Watching some more of Feardotcom worked like a charm!
The third day I finished the movie. The climax scene is actually quite good. They also did a good job of the quick-cut swirling montages that show the horrors people delve into when they go on the website. But yes, no higher than a 4 overall. Some nice stylistic touches helped.
