The story is not fictional. Not only is it based on the life of Danguole Rasalaite, it is a very realistic depiction of the lives of many victims of human trafficking. The horror is not exaggerated.

I kindof felt the same way. It's a sad story and there were several parts throughout when I felt really disgustedthe scenes with those disgusting old men copulating with her, for oneand in general it's made me think a lot, but I didn't cry and I didn't feel very connected to the film overall.
I think the general development of the story and characters had a big part in my reaction; there were so many parts when I just thought "why?" and no explanation was given, and we never really get to know Lilya as anything besides the victim. There's no psychological development, no empathy.
But that was just my experience.

It's sad to think that so many people in this topic saw Lilja's suicide as "giving up", when it fact it's the complete opposite.
People with opinions like this probably shouldn't have even watched the movie in the first place.

For the record, I never cry, so I didnt cried in that movie either.
I dont think its the point of the movie to make people cry. The point of the movie is to make people realize how reality can be like for trafficking victims, and to make people realize how serious this problem is.

I teared up when she was saying the Lord's prayer because I knew that praying wasn't going to help her at all.

This film just made me extremely angry and depressed. Which is a good thing, in a sense. This kind of stuff
                        should
make you angry and depressed because it's not fiction - the reality is likely a lot worse.
                        These bastards!

People react to different movies in different ways
Crying is not a requirement, although it very nearly made me cry.

I felt it was a very cold movie. Not something that would bring me to tears and to be honest when she killed herself I was kinda glad. Seemed like the only sensible option she had.

The bit where Volodya was saying hello to the group of boys, and he was asking if he could play with them and they told him to get lost.
Idk, I felt like nothing from that moment onwards could ever be right again.

I cried like a baby in this movie, including the second and third time watching it. But I don't think you need to watch it again or think there is something wrong with yourself if you didn't cry. Everyone connects with different movies, actors, etc. This movie just hit me like a ton of bricks.
Some hurt, some love, some shout. I fought the world and I lost that bout.

I did cry watching this. As far as I can remember, I cried in the parts where she ran to her mother begging her not to leave her since she's going to the US with her lover. The other one was when she's praying and finally, at the end where she took her life. I think the end is just really depressing since she's already escaped, she has freedom but she chose not to suffer anymore because she doesn't have anywhere to go to, she's lost, even if she's free, there's no more hope inside her. But at least she was reunited with her friend. All in all, it's really a sad and true film. The fact that it's happening now, everywhere. It's devastating to imagine how much suffering these people face everyday and to think that ending ones life is the only way to stop their pain.

I don't know if this is weird but it made me cry when she just arrived at her flat in Sweded and she was tidying things up and cleaning. I don't know, the fact that I know something bad is going to happen and she was clueless is just so heartbreaking for me.
