Old School or Big Lebowski?

There is absolutely NO WAY Old School is comparable. Yes it's funny, yes it's not stupid, yes it's witty, but it's not getting close to surrealistically enigmatic atmosphere of The Big Lebowski. The actors in Old School are not the same level as Jeff Bridges and John Goodman, not even close. Vaughn is probably the only one to have potential, and Ferrel is usually good in films he didn't write, but Wilson is plain average.
Cinematography, writing, humor are all of much higher quality in TBL.
Old School is just one of several good comedies, compare it to Blades Of Glory or Break Up or Dodge Ball but it definitely lacks qualities to become cult movie like TBL. -

Old School is funny from the start. Lebowski has long periods of boredom that drive people insane. Old School is continuously funny from start to end, including the end credits

I first saw TBL when it came out theatrically and since I was expecting a serious crime story, I was all WTF? It was only after giving it a second chance and watching it on it's own terms, that I really started to appreciate the humour of the ludicrous plot and bizarre characters. Expectations really set the stage for whether you'll like a movie, and TBL is not gonna be your cup of tea if you go in expecting the typical crude humour comedy like Old School or Bad Santa. The humour is more subtle and arises from the characters and dialogue. And it for sure gets better with repeat views.

Are you joking? Lebowski is a masterpiece to that Old School crap. I laughed at Old School when I watched it but the Coen's are simply higher caliber directors. It's like comparing da Vinci to a pop artist

Pardon my very late reply, but this question was interesting enough that I had to answer. Mind you, while I say it is interesting, the answer is simple and there really isn't room for debate. Quite simply, The Big Lebowski is probably the funniest movie of last 25 years or more. You have to go back to the golden age of movie comedies in the late 70s/early 80s (i.e. the age of Animal House, Caddyshack, et. al.) to find a movie that even comes close to Lebowski, not just in laugh out loud jokes (though Lebowski has them in spades), but also in the depth and layered quality of the humor. I have surely seen the movie 50 times or more and I honestly STILL see new things to laugh at or different ways to see even more humor in previously hilarious scenes. To put it briefly, Lebowski is a work of genius not just comedic genius but genius. Old School, on the other hand, while brilliantly funny and probably the second funniest movie of this generation, still comes up just a bit short when compared to Lebowski. The difference (and, admittedly it is minor) between the two is that Old School doesn't have the depth of Lebowski. After 10 viewings of Old School, you've seen every joke multiple times and you can be certain that you've missed nothing. Lebowski keeps getting better and funnier with each viewing. Again, just to be clear, we are talking about the first and second funniest movies of our generation here, and, after these two, everything else is far down the list fighting over third place. In other words, I am not dissing Old School, merely stating my personal opinion that The Big Lebowski is funnier.

"She says Big Lebowski is too over the top and not believable"
As opposed to Old School? Really? Thirty-somethings with an over the top Frat House is believable?
I love Old School, but TBL is actually believable in comparison. -

Lebowski has my vote. It's a smarter humor, if that makes sense. Don't get me wrong, I love Old School and I can't remember laughing harder in a movie than I did at the cinder block scene, but Lebowski is comedy genius. Anyone can make a movie about 3 guys trying to hang on to their college days funny. Making a movie about 3 bowling buddies trying to get compensation for a rug being peed on and end up in a kidnapping triangle takes skill.
