Watched episode 4. The alleged Reaver-toxicized ship member. What is this joke? And this is how they try to scare the viewers with this big and ugly Reaver brutality? ROFL.
    This show is a joke.

Ooh, not at all. That's quite a creepy episode. The audience gets their first real look at a Reaver. Very intense and gruesome.
The interrogation of the crew is one of the funnier moments in the series. A great episode.

Watching this show gives me the vibe as like i'm watching Starship Troopers 2, while thinking how good the first movie was, and what kinda joke low-budget one the second one is.
With the difference we don't have any prologue to this (that was very good), and instead of a movie it's a TV show.

Actually, the original airings did have prologue. Just a quick recap about how we found a new system and planets to colonize.
And yes, very good. This is a tv show and not a movie. But there actually is a movie as well. Gotta love the 'verse.

All the 720/1080p complete packages on the internet have this episode included. Originally it was supposed to be aired lastly (i think), because Fox didn't like the quality of it, so it was scrapped as an intro. And, yes, it's as bad as other episodes so far. 🙂

No, no. I meant a literal prologue before the episodes.
But if you're confused about the show/movie titles, Serenity (2002) pt 1 and 2 is the pilot to the show. Serenity (2005) is the feature length movie which was shown in theaters.
Either way, both are fantastic. Good action, heart warming stories and fun characters. Definite high points for the franchise.

Okay, i misread. But Serenity pr1 and 2 were scrapped by Fox Entertainment. They didn't like the production quality, so they were originally aired last back in 2002. I know about the movie, will watch it after the show. I'm not putting much hope into it. Again, the Captain is better suited for a high school teacher. 🙂

Post-poned, but not scrapped. They still aired both parts. It wasn't the production quality they didn't like. In fact, Fox has never had anything negative to say about Firefly's production quality. It was actually quite high.
What Fox wanted was something with more action. Hence The Train Job. A classic western trope.
Nathan Fillion would make a great high school teacher. He'd bring the same charm as he does in Firefly.

Charm is a nice term to describe leftist betamales. 🙂 But charming guy wouldn't make a charismatic and commanding Captain. Let's be honest here now.

Charm is only part of Mal's character. We see his commanding presence. We see how charismatic he can be. All laid out in various scenes across the series.
Guy makes for a great captain. Leads, but also knows when to command. Fillion perfectly captured that in his performance.
And charming of course already implies innate charisma.

Come on, man. The scene in episode 5 where Simon protects his sister from burning on the pole is ridiculous acting. The dialogue, the mimics between them two. It's RIDICULOUS. Straight on bad acting.

That's a great scene. "Big damn heroes, sir." That became a rallying cry for the Browncoats. Heck, Serenity was unofficially known as The Big Damn Movie.
And Safe has one of my favorite moments: River's dance. One of the few times we actually get to see the poor girl without the burden of the trauma inflicted on her.

Oh, i already forgot. The way River is expressing her pain is also crappy acting. In my opinion, of course. I've never cared much for Summer Glau, but i do seem to remember seeing her in other roles doing a much better job. Which ones, i can't recall unfortunately. But true, Firefly was made back in 2002 and she was very young back then.

I like her acting. Very broken. She was only seventeen when she was tortured. Glau did a good job of capturing that lost innocence.

PreachCaleb, can I just say: you are a wonderful human being, and my personal hero for today? Licker's critique is rather hollow and vacuous, and at several times that critique included choices of language that seemed almost intentionally chosen to rile up a strong response, yet you treated said critique with respect, you kept hitting the positives, and you didn't stoop to attacking the critic. You've done good work here.

I'm just such a big fan of Firefly, I can always focus on the positives. It's just so much more preferable. Every critique, reminds me of something I love about it.

A movie about humans fighting giant bugs that are throwing rocks at Earth across the light years of interstellar space is what you consider a good science fiction movie?
                                        That certainly explains a lot.

After reading this whole thread, I truly feel sorry for you that you cannot see the magic that is 'Firefly'. It seems that you are looking for something that the show was never intended to be. It is a light-hearted*, insightful, and delightful look into a possible future.
The dialogue is maybe the most quotable show I have ever seen, simply brilliant writing and execution.
*not so light-hearted when you get to the Ariel episode. A bit of darkness sets in, and stays there through the end of the series, and in the movie as well. The character development is so good.
That being said, your responses have been polite and seem to come from your heart. Not everything is for everyone. Sincerely hope you will give it a chance, and finish the whole thing out, including the movie Serenity. Maybe by then you will understand why SO many people love the show.
