PreachCaleb, can I just say: you are a wonderful human being, and my personal hero for today? Licker's critique is rather hollow and vacuous, and at several times that critique included choices of language that seemed almost intentionally chosen to rile up a strong response, yet you treated said critique with respect, you kept hitting the positives, and you didn't stoop to attacking the critic. You've done good work here.

I'm just such a big fan of Firefly, I can always focus on the positives. It's just so much more preferable. Every critique, reminds me of something I love about it.

That's all right. It's my pleasure to discuss what I love about Firefly. After 15 years, it's still as enjoyable as ever. I rewatch it once or twice every year.

Watching this show gives me the vibe as like i'm watching Starship Troopers 2, while thinking how good the first movie was, and what kinda joke low-budget one the second one is.
A movie about humans fighting giant bugs that are throwing rocks at Earth across the light years of interstellar space is what you consider a good science fiction movie?
That certainly explains a lot.

After reading this whole thread, I truly feel sorry for you that you cannot see the magic that is 'Firefly'. It seems that you are looking for something that the show was never intended to be. It is a light-hearted*, insightful, and delightful look into a possible future.
The dialogue is maybe the most quotable show I have ever seen, simply brilliant writing and execution.
*not so light-hearted when you get to the Ariel episode. A bit of darkness sets in, and stays there through the end of the series, and in the movie as well. The character development is so good.
That being said, your responses have been polite and seem to come from your heart. Not everything is for everyone. Sincerely hope you will give it a chance, and finish the whole thing out, including the movie Serenity. Maybe by then you will understand why SO many people love the show.

I could do the exact same as I did over at the BtVS boards and pick a random episode of this show and still extract a good number of quoteable lines from it.
Thats why its awesome dialogue quality.
Thats not something you can do with many shows.
Heck theres shows like The Vampire Diaries in which I cannot think of a single instance of actually funny dialogue. TVD just takes itself waaaay to serious all the time.
And unlike with BtVS, I dont even have a chance to pick an episode thats actually a bit dull. Well maybe the pilot is a bit, I dont know.

Ajones47, I was thinking the same thing. Preachcaleb was positive and respectful even though it's obvious that something he loves is being denigrated. This is how grown up people disagree! Thanks for the good example.

Luckily i am no fan of any TV show out there, just enjoy for what they are (which the Firefly isn't).
