It seemed like Helgeland made up the film as he went along, picking those aspects of catholic mysticism which might appeal to adolescent boys and incorporating them (the aspects, not the boys) into an inane storyline, the whole structure of which was like a cheap Marvel production, with the fight against injustice leaving the main character immortal with powers beyond those of ordinary men, facing an uncertain future.

So for you, Friday the 13th is a super hero movie?

No, because it's structured differently. However, a talentless director might have missed the point and chosen to film it as one in an attempt to attract mainstream viewers, in which case I'd probably have hated it too. Which isn't to say that I hate Brian Helgeland. Payback, for one, is a great movie, which I in fact like better every time I see it - but that's to a large extent because of its very original premise: a movie with only bad guys. However, there's nothing original about The Order, neither in its idea nor in its execution. Its only redeeming feature is Benno Frmann.

I don't see how my two response posts in this thread leave much doubt, but if you would ask a more specific question, go ahead.

I do like the way you've worded this.
There is an abyss of information regarding Christianity that the majority of people, Christians included, are unaware of. (As well as beliefs and practices performed, or denied).
I happen to have really enjoyed this movie. I think it was played out rather well. Perhaps a bit mish-mosh in how they were chosen to be presented, but they do bring up some wonderful, thought provoking ideas.

BennyM, I have to say that I'm pretty sure I understand your "superhero premise". However, I'm not feeling it. I think the writer/director just thought this up as a supernatural thriller/mystery. Meant for people who like movies like The Ninth Gate, Stigmata, Constantine, or End of Days. The plot is a little convoluted and I think the nightclub addition was a little bizarre, to say the least, but I also find these kind of movies thought provoking and definitely worth watching. I saw someone had written a thread that said they thought this was the worst movie they had ever seen in a theatre. If that was the case for me, then all the movies I have seen in the theatre (besides this one) have been great.

Agreed. I also saw this film more as a supernatural thriller/mystery along the same lines as the films macgirl66 mentioned above.
The Ninth Gate and Constantine, I think, are more similar to this film in that you have this underworld premise you have to accept as part of the mythos in order to enjoy the film.
The William Eden character is by far the most interesting thing about this film and Benno Furmman gives an excellent performance. Heath and company play their parts well, but nothing really stands out.

Sorry dude, not gonna type your name. However, I think you're spot on. I really felt the weariness of William Eden. He was so ready to be done, after existing for so long and having seen what he had seen, all the things he had done. When he finally gets Heath's character to take his place, he is so ready to move on, he has fulfilled his own destiny and set up that of the next sin eater. A never ending chain of small, controlled events which lead to the unavoidable event, that of Alex taking his place.

This is in no way a superhero origin film. To think so is simply retarded
