How did that kid get the Gnarly Scar on his cheek?

I watched this movie the other day, and I didn't pay attention to the last five minutes about how the kid got the scar. What can I say, After that thrilling climax I was a bit worn out. So what did happen in the rootball stars front yard?

The Football star and The kid with the scar were fighting each other when they were kids. The Footy star was loosing and got angry. He picked up a garden fork and swung out in anger. It made contact with with the other kid. Hence the SCAR.

although to be more accurate you have to say how football star got angry cos scar guy, CJ, was all scrawny and was winnin and Football star has issues with controlling his anger, which was kind of a big subtext in the film, the point was that he had, and had always had, anger problems, evidenced by him pounding on the hicks in the bar, pounding on his little bro and CJ, racing with the cadillac. The scar and how CJ got it explained their whole relationship in the film.
