Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Day After Tomorrow

    Chronic_Johnson — 6 years ago(January 25, 2020 03:41 PM)

Underneath all the alarmist messages and plot holes (there's some information that people could not have possibly known about what happened to other groups of people that died, and so on). The way the disaster is depicted and what characters have to go through makes for an entertaining watch, and the effects still hold up to this day.
If only they weren't so forceful with their message.

      I agree. The plot was
      laughably stupid
, but I loved seeing LA get wrecked by tornadoes. And the NYC tsunami was pretty cool also.
      The rest was
      green wacko
      garbage.

I agree. The wolf scene on the ship was pretty good too. It's just impressive that they can make the disaster look so convincing on the scale of New York city. The less political messages in film the better.

Amen on the stupid political message!
But I didn't like the wolf scene. All the other CGI was pretty cool, and totally convincing. But the CGI wolves looked fake to me.

Too many off-screen deaths in this one. I would have liked this movie more if it been a bit more dark and gritty with more folks dying onscreen. I thought it pulled its punches in that particular regard.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.

Yeah, none of the major characters died, so there's not a whole lot of weight to the film. Occasionally, I can tolerate that for a throwaway action/thriller movie.

If this film had been made back in the 1970's, a few major characters would have died.

For sure. But that was one hell of a decade for film. Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter, Alien, Taxi Driver, Solaris… and those are just some of my favourites from the 70s. All much, much darker in tone.
Sometimes a "popcorn" movie is a good break, but certainly not my preference.

The political message was the best part. Climate change is very real. It's just not that fast.
In any case, I liked the killer weather, though I could've done without the wolves. That was far more forced than the political message.
So many stories, so little time.

Yeah, that was pretty bad CGI.

There was? It must've been when I went to the restroom.
This is a piece of pure garbage I actually saw in the theater because it was purported to be about climate change. Instead it was a phoned in cheap ridiculous action movie with terrible actor Dennis Quaid! Yuck!
                            Mean people suck.
