The important thing to remember is Christ's love for mankind is so great that He would endure such pain to save us.

That was the point of Mad Mel's film, which was as always, terrifically directed. Even if flawed, due to the manner of the way he chose to tell the story, Gibson's film is still very powerful. Not being Christian and not siding with the Christian notion of duality and a separate God, I see the scouring that many see as overkill, as part of Mel's point as well. Christ was enable to endure more than the ordinary man, due to his immense love and energy that he emanated from him.

Christ was the son of God, well according to scripture anyway. People could sense his presence miles away it was so strong and powerful. If you know more, please fill me in.

Actually, this kind of brutality still occurs on this planet every day. Look at the young girl on YouTube burned to death in Guatamala and other videos of lynch mobs (typical humans in numbers) beating people to death.
Look up on YouTube Chinese mob beat Turkish boy (they also break his fingers), look up "Chinese man stomps baby" (head stomps 3 year old for no reason for 37 seconds).
Read stories of mothers putting their own babies in microwave ovens.
Read about the woman who cut off her ex husbands penis, and when doctors reattached it, she visited him in hospital and cut it off again - this time throwing it out a window where it was never found - presumably eaten by rats.
Look at how ISIS execute people burning them, beheading, drowning people etc.
Watch the video on YouTube of how Chinese mob deals with thieves (breaking their hands and spines with rocks).
Cell out the pictures of how the Mexican drug cartel skin peoples faces completely off (when they are alive).
Approximately 3 people die in this world every 2 seconds.
Someone is shot and killed by police in America once every hour.
Watch police brutality videos - police executions compilation video.
Cold blooded murderers. Look up the CIAs involvement in 911.
Read about Hiroshima and Nagasaki - over 300,000 people killed by Americas terrorist attack - with only a combined 5% military death toll. Meaning 95% of those hundreds of thousands of people killed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki were innocent civilians - fathers, mothers, grandparents, children, babies, pregnant women and new borns.
            God bless America indeed!
Also, more importantly, for some 80,000 years before the time Jesus was said to have lived, there was murder and brutality and torture in the world. Interesting isn't it, that for 80,000 years god looked on with indifference.
Finally only 2000 years ago decided to send his son to deliver a message - and not even in a country with good communication and language but in the illiterate parts of a dust bowl in the middleeast.
            Very interesting how you
            strangely omit
any discussion of the 'abortion' holocaust, which has already murdered billions of people - which is
            far more
than any of the other crimes you mentioned - and continues to murder legions more on a daily basis. Could your strange omission be because like 99%-100% of other darwinists, you are a supporter of the 'abortion' holocaust? If you are, then that just further corroborates that darwinism is your religion, and that darwinists are by and large evil psychopaths who follow the same set of common anti-morals as the tenets of their religion. Moreover, it would also make you a hypocrite to feign outrage at other crimes if you are a supporter of the biggest & most evil crime against humanity of all-time.
And your statement about "God's indifference for 80,000 years" is bollocks. The world is 10,000 years old at most (or maybe
            slightly
older, but not much). And this world had
            no evil in it
at the beginning. Evil only entered this world only after Eve gave in to Satan's temptation.

You are either a troll or a complete idiot. I'm going to go with the latter.
Thank you for making it clear to me just how morbid your mind is. I will not waste any more time on you. Seek help - in the form of medication.
Translation: "I cannot possibly refute the irrefutable logic & wisdom of God, as relayed to me by his emissary Navaros. Therefore, since I have no possible rebuttal, I will simply pretend that nothing that God said happened, lob some ad hom logical fallacy attacks at Navaros, and declare 'victory' for myself!"
God and I have seen that exact same M.O from darwinists
                  countless
times before. Your ad homs against me and your lack of any substantive response to God's truths once again proclaim God's undefeatable glory. Praise God! Amen.

Well because - after I've pissed on this film so often on here - I guess I should make a small statement as to why I
                    didn't
walk out on it. It's simply because of the film's several "positives":

                    1. Outstanding photography
                    2. "Believable" costuming and locations
                    3. Use of the "native" languages-cum-subtitles (which were apparently not perfect, but it's the thought that counts)
                    4. Excellent Jesus played by Jim Caviezel
                    5. Excellent casting - no miscasting whatsoever
                    6. Realistic effects - the moon over Gethsemane, "Jerusalem", rolling clouds during the crucifixion, imaginative "falling divine tear" during the same scene, convincing earthquake and its destructive effects, lovely "vacuum emptying" effect in the collapse of Jesus' burial shroud
                    7. The occasional successful meaningful/ironic scene, e.g., when Jesus falls under the cross's weight, Mary's mind flashes-back to the toddler-Jesus tripping and falling, then she goes to comfort the fallen Jesus and Jesus says,
"See, Mother, how I make all things new!"
                    • a bit of irony because as "the world" views it, Jesus has utterly failed and is on his way to annihilation; but as Jesus/God sees it, Jesus is on his way to fulfilling "all that was written", on his way to saving humankind, on his way to victorious death and triumphal Resurrection. How his brief statement to Mary sums up all this - and perfectly.
So - those are most of the reasons that I didn't walk out on this film.

                      and
                      most of all
, because you needed to see the content of the film in order to become capable of performing dissembly-style lies upon it.

Not due to any religious beliefs but the sheer brutality of it sickened me. I'm not entirely sure where I stand with regards to God, Jesus or religion but it's true the Romans were this vicious and it really upset me.
I had to leave my husband watching it and wait outside with a cup of tea to calm my nerves!
Anybody else react strongly to this film? Or is it just me with a very weak stomach?!
12 years later and i still cover my eyes to most of the brutal scenes. you aren't alone.

No offense to the religious users on the board, but the film is basically a 2 hour long torture porn film (almost would make an honorable pass as a horror film). A more appropriate title would be "The Jesus Chainsaw Massacre."
Honestly, while I did enjoy the film for what it was attempting to convey, there have been much better films about this material.
