With kryptonite/crystals shooting them into the ocean to grow a new landmass.
This feels regressive, it worked way back in 78, but since the OG movies ended the character of Lex Luthor has changed, in modern versions Lex Luthor is a public rich figure who runs LexCorp and is a supervillain behind the scenes.

Why do people do this with fiction? Do serial killers stop after their first victim? Did not overthrowing the Iran government stop Saddam from trying to take Kuwait in 1990? Is the Ukraine/Russia war the first time Putin attacked someone?
But in fiction, you can only do something once. It's so stupid.

This was supposed to be a sequel to Superman II (ignoring III and IV), so it was a throwback.
Movie sucks, though.
