It seems that there are a lot of people on the board who have waited tables, so I was hoping you guys could help with this. I was watching the scene where they messed with that woman's food because she was a b itch and I was just curious if that actually happens in real life, and if so, does it happen often?

You'll get a few different areas, but in my experience: it happens, but not often. In my entire career as waitstaff, I've only seen it twice. Once was to a man very similar to the woman in the movie. He came in every other day for breakfast, complained about everything, tipped very little, and was generally a giant douchebag to everyone in the restaurant. The other was a stuck-up tourist with vast depths of bitchery I've yet to see in anyone else.
In short, people won't intentionally tamper with your food if you treat them like they're human.

My family owned a restaurant for 4 years,i didn't work there but i spend everyday in the joint especially in the kitchen,we had in total around 24 chefs during these 4 years,some of them really beep up in heads and some really proffesionals who took their job really seriously,anyway the only time i saw a chef from my restaurant messing up with customers food was one time when this chef guy in his 30s he kinda looked like "Floyd" from this movie too lol but he was really skilled and had some previous jobs in top restaurants in Qatar,France,Belgium etc. so once this customer sent the food back to kitchen because the steak wasn't too bloody or something like that,and this chef took a piece of steak meal and threw it on toilet after that he pissed on it and then cooked it for that customer,i was a kid back then so i thought it was funny and we really bound up so we both laughed our asses off,that's the only time i saw something like thatso yeah it can happens on good restaurants too not only in Mc's,hooters,dennys etc.

I have never seen anyone at our restaurant purposely spit in someones food or anythingi mean, if they got caught, they would get fired. That being said, i myself have gotten so frustrated and pissed off at rude customers before that I'll just get "careless" with their plates. I might not care about putting my hands all over their food, or if something off their plate happens to fall off onto the floor, I will have no problem putting it back on the plate. It's not exactly something I'm proud of, but as the movie so wisely puts it"don't beep with people who handle your food."
But mostly, I think the disgusting stuff happens on accident or when our restaurant gets busy and I'm in a hurry or the kitchen staff is shorthanded and they're not as careful. Because believe mewhen you have a table who are angry cause their ticket is going on thirty minutes and their chicken tenders fall onto the flooryou better believe taking those tenders out to them is going to give you a lot better result than telling that person it's going to be six more minutes before they get to eat their food. -

Sorry, people, I hate to admit it, but I'm guilty. I used to work KFC 7 years ago, and we had this one lady come in, drunker than hell, and cursing at everyone. I mean, she was yelling at our "incompetence" in making her Big Crunch combo take too long. Needless to say, don't antagonize a bunch of 18-20 year olds. Five of us, behind the wall, out of camera view, well we all hocked onto the chicken before putting the mayo on top. Admittedly, it's the only time I've committed anything like that.
Then again, it's KFC, so, maybe we made it better. -

I worked at a Taco Bell in HS and I did see gross stuff happen there, like putting stuff in the deep fryer or dropping food on the ground. This was mostly when only drive through was open. I never did it but I saw other people do it. That's why I never order drive through, and watch the person making my food.

I was a chef for 10 years and I never did anything to a persons food. Sure it may happen in some restaurants with low level cooks like Denny's or TGI Fridays sh!t holes like that, but most of us take pride in our work.

It doesn't happen as much as some people believe. At least not enough to walk around worrying about it. Unless you act like a humongous douche off course, then you might get some payback from some people.
You have to remember that people are still mostly humane. Some people might be tempted but would never resort to disgusting things like that. Also people preparing/serving food are mostly around other people all the time. I don't think it's worth the risk getting caught to most people. And this kind of group grossening of the food you see in the movie? Think about it. It's risky even suggesting something like that let alone doing it with other people knowledge. You can never know if somebody feels like telling the manager. I personally would tell the guy/girl doing such things to stop or get reported on it. Not because I'm a 'rat' just because I - like most others - are a normal person with a conscience.
So the odds of something like that happening to you are pretty slim. You are probably more likely to eat something really gross from storebought products as the food is handled otherwise there.
Off course there will be the odd ball who finds some twisted pleasure in doing such things. So there's always the possibility! But then again there's always the possibility that you'll be stabbed tomorrow by some nutcase. So you are never 100% safe from stuff like that. -

I never spit in anyones food or added gross stuff, but I am guilty of letting nasty peoples food fall onto the floor, stepping on it, or handeling it with my bare hands. This was only in the most extreme cases..a la, the nasty beyoutch in the movieand yes, some people do actually act like that.
Only ONE time, did I ever do anything really bad. I am not proud of itGod forgive me..but I will share it with my friends on this board. A man came into the resturant and ordered fettucini alfredo made with angel hair. I was 18, and dumb, and truly was clueless about the types of noodles out there. I requested the change from the kitchen, but they made it the reguar way. I took it to the table and the guy reamed me out in front of the whole place. He SCREAMED, and I quote..i still remember it to this day "What, are you too stupid to know the difference between fettucini and angel hair? Are you really going to tell me you are that freakin stupid!?" I told him I'd fix it and requested a new order from the kitchen. I was in the kitchen, waiting for the food, getting angrier and angrier as the seconds went by. I noticed a piece of dirty grimy toilet paper on a fellow servers foot. I stopped him, picked it off, and palmed it. When the jerks food came up, i rubbed and "tossed" the pasta with the dirty peice of toilet paper. I washed my hands and brought the food out, already really ashamed of myself. When I got to the table the jerk grabbed the food out of my hands and called me an a$$hole. I stopped feeling bad at that moment. In retrospect, 10 years later, I suppose I feel badbut God Damn, he deserved it.nah..I dont feel bad. lol -

Ive always worked in restraunts or with food. Ive worked at dq, margaritas, and a pizza place in my town. It doesnt happen often and its not like they line people up to do it, but it does happen. This one time when i was delivering for a pizza place, this woman gave me the wrong address. Thats fine no big deal. But then she gave me the wrong address again and i waited around for a half hour. My manager just told me to come back, and the place was a twenty minute ride from the pizza place. So now its been an hour since i originally went to deliver this beep pizza, and what happens? The beep lady calls back and i have to go out again. on the way there i pulled the veggie pizza out of the pizza jacket and hawked all over it and rubbed it in with my fingers. When i got there she gave me a 2 dollar tipso I dont regret it at all. Like the movie says, "dont beep with people who handle your food!"

i was very tempted to do something like that when i used to deliver pizzas. This bch called up and ordered a pizza after we were supposed to have been closed and so i was counting tips and organizing the credit card receipts and getting ready to go when my boss answered the phone and asked if i'd stay for one last delivery. I said ok and he quickly whipped up her pizza and i went to deliver it.
I forgot to mention that it was starting to snow so it was a nasty night and this woman lived about 20 mins away. So after about 10 mins or so the pizza is done and ready to be delivered. She also ordered a 12 pack of beer as well. Yes we delivered beer but i could ask to check i.d. if i feel the person might not be 21 but that wasnt the case with this woman because she looked like she was in her 40s. So it takes me about 30 mins to get there. Her driveway isn't shoveled at all (it had snowed 2 days earlier and she clearly hadn't shoveled since then because it hadn't been snowing long enough for it to be covered that much).
So i get to the door, deliver her pizza and beer and she puts it on the table, opens it and complains that it's cold. So she tells me she wants a new one and asks for her beer. I said "ok i'll take it back" and as i was turning away to go back to my car she say, "and don't think you're getting a tip for this." That pissed me off not because she wasn't going to tip me but because she felt the need to warn me i wasn't getting a tip after she was complaining her pizza was cold (it really wasn't cold but it wasn't so hot that it would burn your mouth because she lives 20 mins away so naturally its not going to stay 100% hot, we dont have heat wave stuff like Dominos) plus i was supposed to have been off of work already but was staying special for this woman.
When i got back to the pizza place she had apparently called back up and complained to my boss and accused me of drinking on the job. Now THAT really pissed me off and my boss knew i hadn't had a single drink because he saw me all night and he knew this woman was a complete bch. I told him what happened and he said "don't worry about it i'll deliver it myself."
That was a smart choice for him because if i had went back there i would have spit on her food and i would have given her a piece of my mind because she was already drunk before i got there (i could tell just by how she was moving) and she was ordering another 12 pack and she was accusing ME of drinking?!? I was pretty pissed about that one and just thinking about her now is pissing me off.
Ive dealt with some jerk customers before delivering pizzas but this woman took the cake. I'm a pretty nice guy and would just let people say or do what they want and wouldn't say anything back but i've dealt with some crazy poor black people and snobby rich people that usually complain to me that it took too long (i have to wait for the food to be cooked and i deliver based on who ordered first unless one of the other stops was on the way and i was usually pretty fast except when i first started). I don't mean to sound racist with that last line but its just that this one section of town is really run down and poor and is all black people and everytime i delivered over there i knew i might not get a tip or hardly get a tip at all but they were also some of the biggest complainers.
Bottom line is like the movie says, "dont screw with people that handle your food." Human nature people don't like to be treated a certain way and if you're a big enough a-hole you will push a person to the point that they can't take it anymore and since verbally or physically doing something would get them fired and be obvious, they'll do something to your food where you don't know it or they won't get caught but they'll have the satisfaction of knowing they got the best of you in the end. -

I think angel hair is really thin but I don't see why he would ask for angel hair when they all taste the bloody same.
Actually they don't. There are different textures, thicknesses and stuff like that. Also it's about which pasta to what sauce. All sauces doesn't stick to all kinds of pastas and you don't want to take a fork full of pasta and sauce just to have sauce drip off down on to your plate again.

Yes. And yes, it happens often.
I used to be a cook at a really busy Chili's and if any group of idiots came in within half an hour of closing, their food got beep with, and beep with hard.
This movie pretty much nailed it, from the singing and cursing at servers to kicking food across the floor.
If you're worried about it, though, just be sensible. If you're craving food past ten o'clock at night, you shouldn't be eating at a sit-down joint, you should be getting fast food. -

It's odd that when some people go out to eat, they get that Henry VIII complex and feel as if the wait staff is slave labor. Think about the lady who played the "Biatch" in Waitingthe one who was showing off for her friends. That actress did a GREAT job in that role by the way. Basically, if you have even been in a restaurant and acted in that manner or sat at the table with someone who did, you ate snot and food that had been "tainted." Such retribution is quite universal.
I went to a nice Italian place with a friend a couple of years ago and this person, somewhat politely, complained about the pizza we ordered and asked to have a new one cooked because the pizza contained one topping we didn't ask for. I refused to eat what was brought back out. I watched my friend eat snot, spit and who knows what else. I warned the friend that they were making a mistake but they insisted "no one would do that."
