Trust me, it happens. I've worked in three restaurants and have seen it happen and actually have taken part in it myself.
Typcially, if you don't beep with the staff then the staff don't beep with you.
That being said, I should note that I have NEVER in four years of restaurant experience seen an employee "mess" with some one's food who didn't deserve it.
If some one has a legitimate complaint that they handle with maturity, I'm sure a resonable restaurant employee would have no problem fixing it with no problems.
But if you're talking down to an employee, acting like a smug beep your food will come with something extra 99% of the time.
OH! And don't rush into a restaurant five minutes before closing and plop into a talbe. You're dealing with servers and cooks who've worked long shifts, ready to go home and have already started cleaning for the night.
I've gone out with friends who tried to do this and I had to stop them. A disgruntled cook who only wants to finish his work and go home to rest will NOT be happy having to clean the kitchen twice since you decided to come in at the last minute.
I've seen some pretty gross stuffsnot, spit, boogers, pubes, old/dirty food, things from the floor, etc.
When you eat out, you're doing it at your own risk really. 😞

Yes. If you're a dick, you're good gets messed with. Send something back more than once, and you're food gets messed with. I used to be a cook, and I've done it. True story:
Lady comes in maybe 20 minutes before close. 20 minutes before close, cooks have everything clean and wrapped up and are just waiting to go home. Her order isn't anything too complicated, though, so I don't mind TOO much making it. Until it's served to herand she changes her mind and wants something else. Her new order consists of chunks of beef on skewers. Those skewers were spat on, stepped on, dragged through the bottom of a dirty, grimy rinse sink, placed deliacately on a bed of rice pilaf and served.
Moral of the story: If you're a pain, your food will be messed with. Count on it.

When I got to work, I don't get to just sit on my arse for the last 20 minutes I work until the end of my shift. Your shift ends when the restaurant closes. If your manager lets you pre-emtively clean up 20 minutes early, thats their choice I've worked in plenty of kitchens and whilst it can be frustrating I never was tempted to be a dick about it like some of you beep
I hope you get caught doing something like this, because if the customer wanted to they can do a lot more than just loosing you your job. beep with someones food is dangerous and could be considered damaging to their health. Then what would you cretins do for a job if you couldn't work with food?

I used to work at woodys bbq and did some crazy stuff. I would drop ribs on the floor and leave them there on the floor for 15 seconds, touch my balls and put my hand in cole slaw, pick my burgers and put it in the green beans. One day my friend jizzed in the peas. We people ordered out I always filled it to the max.

I work in IT as well, heheh.
I've never personally done anything like that although I never really worked in food services other than a 2-year stint I did in a donut shop/bakery/restaurant kind of place in my hometown, but I fully believe it happens. I also fully believe that the only people who get that kind of treatment sincerley deserve it for their douchbaggery.
Always be nice to your servers - they bust their butts for you if you are nice.
I've been totally served the wrong dish before, and I'll let my server know, but I'm not very picky at all and will eat almost anything so my only stipulation is that they don't charge me more if what they brought out was a higher priced food item - usually it's pretty much a wash where the food is concerned.
The look of gratitude and thanks that I have gotten from servers after that type of incident is pretty cool - I'm just not the kind of person who is going to bitch about something so trivial because quite frankly, I have bigger problems to worry about than whether or not the very eddible food in front of me was exactly what I ordered. EVERYONE makes mistakes here and there to include kitchen staff and servers so how can I complain about their mistakes when I make them myself?

Nope - I never worry about the restaurant employees messing with my food because I'm not a dick and I don't give them a reason to want to.

I worked in a cafe when I was in college and while I've never spit into anyone's latte
We had this bitch of a lady that used to come in and get a couple of cinnamon buns pretty much daily..We were down to the last one in the refrigerated case so my coworker took it in the back to bag it..it rolled off of the plate and landed on the floor. We were just staring at each other all horrified. I told him I wasn't going out there to tell Queen Biatch that it fell..he said he wasn't either. So we nuked it in the microwave. Of course, when we gave it to her she complained that she didn't want it heated.. I was thinking," Umm, yes you do!!"
We had this group of young snippy types that used to come in and order cappuccinos and they were always on diets. They were also extremely rude to you(unless you had a penis)..They'd order their drinks with skim and when I was feeling evil, I'd give them 2% and on one occasion, half and half.(it was a real PIA to get it to foam though!).They were so stupid in addition to being nasty that they didn't seem to notice. I did overhear one complaining that she couldn't seem to lose that last 10 pounds..oh well.

You're a rebel. 2% instead of skim? Really? Hope you didn't get caught. 😛
More seriously, though, you have to be a real jerk to get anyone in a restuarant to mess with your food. Even having worked in a restaurant, and knowing the potential consequences, I'll still speak up if somethign is totally wrong. Really, it's all in your attitude. If you're nice about it, there's never a problem.

Hey, Felonious, I worked in a cafe, and in an open environment where the customer can see you, sometimes the most you can do without being noticed is make a skim latte 2% or make that decaf mocha caffeinated for the b*tch who needs to get to sleep by 10 tonight, thank you.
In our cafe we've got a lot of crazies. One woman demands the cupcake at the front of the plate "because it's the freshest" even when they were all thawed at the same time earlier that day. God forbid you tell her this, because she will do her damnedest to get you firedscream, insult, berate. (She is only one example of the many wretched people that come in.)
Every time I saw her coming, I'd turn the plate around, but only after checking to see if the cupcake was just about to hit its expiration date. I especially love hearing that she could TASTE the freshness.
Again, only so much you can do in an open environment. It's still satisfying to dupe a cruel idiot.

I was just being sarcastic. That's part of the reason I was glad I didn't work in an open kitchen. I dunno if I could have kept from swearing and shouting at waitresses.

Whoops, sorry. Sometimes on these boards, it's hard to tell who's being sarcastic and who's being mean. No hard feelings?
In a fantastic twist of fate, that woman I meantioned in my previous post had her favorite cupcake discontinued last week. She was devastated (I wish that, in my life, the most i had to be distraught over was a vanilla cupcake); it was an awesome thing.

Honestly I have NEVER seen that in all my years of serving. I'm sure it happens at some places, but I've never seen it. Never seen them spit in food. Never even seen cooks drop food on the ground and put it back on the plate. They would get in HUGE trouble, probably even fired if a manager saw that. I've encountered many tables like that bitch, but I just try to get them fed and out the door as quickly as possible.
