It's also one of the most boring games ever, the kind you used to have to play with your Great-Aunt Harriet. Choosing that game adds another layer to their life in the movie.

I just watched it again this morning. Every time I watch it I get something out of it. Yesterday I watched it and blubbered all the way through it. I'm a softie.

Yes, I cry too every time I am forced to play cribbage. The tears just flow. ; >

It made me miss cribbage. Haven't played it for years. BTW- good movie!
Yes, sir, I'm going to do nothing like she's never been done before!

My mother, who is no longer with us, taught me to play cribbage. Contrary to the negative comments, I think it is an interesting, thinking persons' game. It was a nice facet of this movie.

That's the problem for most people. Cribbage is a thinking persons game. I have several boards including one for 4 players and a small traveling board. Great game.
I spend my money on dope, sex and cheap thrills.
The rest of it, I waste.

I also like how they use the game in one scene to further irritate Einar. Mitch keeps scoring points off of every card Einar plays while they talk and Einar doesn't score any.
For someone who's played the game, it's a helpless feeling and you know exactly how Einar feels and why it riles him up when he probably just came to play with Mitch to relax. 🙂

Quite agree. If Cribbage were boring, it wouldn't have lasted almost 400 years with very little change. Boring is in the mind of the beholder. Or in this case the mindlessness.

I just saw this again this morning, and I realized that Redford has played cribbage in another movie as well. He and Newman played it in "The Sting". In both movies, he quits the game right in the middle of the game!! Lol. I wonder if that scene was a nod to "The Sting"?

That could very well be. I haven't seen "The Sting" in years.
