Well let's see..Jennifer Lopez was cast as Robert Redford's daughter.
      The movie tanked.
      The surprise exactly?
Oh, did I mention that Jennifer Lopez was cast as Robert Redford's daughter?

she plays his daughter-in-law not his daughter if you know the diference !
it tanked because they released it like an independant movie, because of the problem between Miramax and the Weinstan (spl?). They did the same for 5 other movies including 'The Libertine' with Jhonny Depp, this one made less than $5M.

Good point. I never consider the releasing aspect when looking at boxoffice. All I can say is that I liked it and it became one of my father's favorite films.

My bad, I must have misread something in the description. Either way, she didn't deserve to work in any kind of proximity with Robert Redford.

Obviously the movie studio, the director, the producers, Robert Redford and etc. didn't have a problem with Jennifer being in this film. In fact, all of the parties mentioned spoke very highly of her and her abilities as an actress. Just because you don't like Jennifer or don't find her "worthy" enough to act in this movie doesn't mean that she shouldn't have. Watch the movie and evaluate her performance honestly; she did a good job-I don't see what all the fuss is about.

"misread something in the description.." Does that mean you didn't even WATCH the movie??? The main story was about a father (Redford) who blamed his daughter-in-law (Lopez) for his son's death.
There is absolutely NO WAY anyone who saw this movie would miss that point. Gee, maybe Griff was really Morgan Freeman's granddaughter?? It's as much a joke as anyone who saw the movie would think that Lopez was cast as Redford's 'daughter'!!

If you haven't seen the movie, which you obviously haven't since all you know about it is what's in the description, then why are you on here trashing it? Ya, that makes sense.

very surprised too. i just watched it for the 2nd time not realizing i already watched it awhile back. i happen to read the book recently and then realized there was also a movie made. i have since read the 2nd book this author did and i didn't like it at all but that's another story.
watching it for the 2nd time i really did appreciate the story more especially since reading the book and thought everyone's acting was superb. it was a heartfelt drama that deserved more viewing than it actually got.

This movie was excellent, don't know why it did so badly in theaters.
