I love this movie but I feel she was cast just cos they wanted a famous name to appear opposite Hanks.
In reality its a smaller role so didnt need a big name. I feel a lesser name actress would have performed better
Anyone else agree?

Agreed. As she was the main female protagonist, they may have felt to have a famous name. And yes, a less well known actress could have done it, not necessarily because the role was trivial, but there are better acting actresses.

She was perfect. And maybe she took the role because it wasn't a major role because it only took a few days, didn't have lots of lines to remember, etc.
If she wanted huge roles in major films, she could have tried to get them at any point in the last 15 years. She's not exactly a terrible actress or hard to look at.
