I spent the last week building a catalog with movies I like, using IMDB as main reference database. Guys, I have enough
While I can find good recommendations on "All-Time USA Box office" (based on money each movie made), it is a joke to look at the "Top 250 movies as voted by our users". There are so many crappy movies in this last list!
I don't want to offend anyone, but why such a huge discrepancy? Who are you, people? IMDB is for me a very respectable website, my main reference for movies. But when I see 5.4 for this good enough Vin Diesel movie (out of 56,000+ user votes) and 7 or more for crappy things, I don't know what to think anymore. Is there a IMDB chart to show what age most of you guys are? I found many other complains about the same thing, so please don't give me the "de gustibus non est disputandum" speach -

Think you're taking IMDB way too seriously, do you expect the site to somehow judge all the films you like to be the top movies ever? How many million members contribute to the vote from all locations and all ages and you think the films that did it for you will have even been seen and perhaps appreciated the same way as you? If I could be bothered to draw up a list of my top 100 movies, I'd be surprised to find more than a handful in the IMDB top 250. Frankly, I don't care either as these films are personal to me. They are certainly not the best movies ever (maybe some are) but they are MY favourites. The IMDB top 250 comes down basically to the biggest movies with the most viewers getting the highest number 10s from regular voters (and how regular is regular?) BAD comes nowhere cos its not very good. However, I agree with you that there are plenty in the top 250 that are not that great either (as many as half of them!). If it hurts that badly create your own top movie list to get that warm glow, maybe even share it with your fellow IMDB members. You may find like-minded souls who understand where you're coming from on some if not many of your faves. Find out what's best about using IMDB despite the ratings, there is always someone who will share your views.
Lastly, please don't include BAD in your movie list, it really should not be on anyone's list of top movies.
