I completely didn't get that she died while delivering the babies. Why would that be common? She was in good health and had access to futuristic health care. Anyway, is that just speculation on your part, or was there something in the film to indicate that's what happened. If so, I missed it. For all we know she was in the house baking cookies?

I thought them mentioning that she was programmed to breed and then fade away was pretty selfexplanatory?
She was a construct, made by man, and her programming ended when she gave birth. Hence she died since her programming told her so.
A bigger question might be whether the kids would have the same programming, essentially creating a breed of mothers who'll die on birth. Sounds like a possible flaw ^^ -

this depends on which version you watch. I dont think the US theatrical release mentions her being made to breed. That was the voiceover at the end of the uncut/dvd/non US version. The uncut version also does not show the children and it puts up a "6 Months Later" caption before she gives birth.

"Finaly, she died while delivering the babies which unfortunately is not uncommon."
Actually, death during childbirth (in 2010), IS uncommon. Check the statistics.
Decades ago, it was more common. These days, it is truly rare.
It is beside the point though, because in this movie, the pill was supposedly meant to kill her after she delivered the babies. -

Actually, death during childbirth (in 2010), IS uncommon.
800 pregnancy related deaths a day seems high especially if you happen to know someone who died b/c it or your own mom died. Pregnancy related in the United have been increasing the last few years.
In the movie I thought she was living in a dystopia and then didn't receive any prenatal care until she was found after surviving a few explosions.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. -

They're still in upstate New York. Toorop rebuilt his family cabin. You can still see the old beat-up mailbox outside when he takes the kids in from the coming storm. Also, he's wearing a polo shirt that says "ZOOYORK NYC" on it in the scene before Aurora dies. And yes, all three main characters do die in New York, as Aurora had predicted.

a) they stayed in the us. toorop was born there. see the usmc tatoo. and his background story.
b) in the extended cut, it was said that aurora should give birth as a virgin. the neolites, a capitalistic church, wanted to take the birth as a wonder to get more followers ("from 200 million to 2 billion followers"). aurora was programmed to die at birth, because after the birth she would not be needed any longer (a comment from toorop near the ending). -

They stayed at Vins old farm (remember prophecy is they all die in upstate NY)
The ending with 1 black & 1 white kid was BIZARRE to say the least
No idea how she knew she'd die in childbirth, another prophecy maybe -

During the movie Toorop mentions that his grandparents(?) had a farm/cabin in upstate New York and mentioned something about "maybe fixing it up". I think the end scene was an allusion to that.
Aurora died AFTER childbirth. -

It was just a really stupid ending to a mediocre movieno wonder the movie bombed, cost $70 million to make, only grossed $22 million in the USAwhen you have a stupid ending, word of mouth gets around fast lol
