OP: You and your friends and family are in the minority on this one. It sits at a 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is the lowest rating I have ever seen given to a film on that site. To put it in perspective, Catwoman got higher at 10%!!!

Jaws the Revenge has 0%. Plus be careful about RT, remember unless a films review is better than average it won't be counted on the positive side. That means a film which recieves 100 reviews with 99 average ones and a good one will score 1%. You could then get a movie that gets 95 terrible reviews and 5 good ones which gives it 5%. Remember that theres also the critics average score out of 10 just below, and frankly thats a better indicator of the movie. In that section Babylon A.D has 3.2/10 and Catwoman has 3/10. So actually Babylon Ad was marginally better reviewed. Still don't make me out to be some sort of Babylon A.D defender, I thought it was average at best.

I appreciate the info, I did not actually know all the methodology they used for determining the percentages.
Hmmm, so only 7% of general critics put it at above average. That's still a tough battle for the defenders of this movie who think it is somewhere between "great" to "outstanding."
I personally thought it was terrible. I almost always want to see the end of every movie I watch (my standards are pretty low), but I wanted to turn this movie off after about 5 minutes. The only reason I didn't was that I was at a friend's house and he was slightly more interested in it than me. -

Well I am certainly no expert film critic but I know what I do & don't like in films. I thought Babylon was well set out, usual apoalyptic chaos with an almost impossible "mission" for VD to acomplish, but then it just would not be a movie would it. I agree it delivered! Ending sucked a little but it was explained and the explanation fitted. Good job!

I was trying to be a bit ironic with "it delivered". Vin Disel acting range is not great and he seems sometimes like some machine to me. But he-it accomplished the mission and delivered the girl in the end.
The movie is nothing special I admit honestly but I also didn't have any problems like I would've wanted to stop watching. -

It depends on how you rate the movies. I find a lot of people kind of think about it like they would a grade. A 7/10 is passing, meaning that is kind of a baseline for them. In my opinion that skews everything pretty high. You only have 3 spots to go up if you liked it. If I find the movie completely average, I give it a 5, slightly like a 6, slightly dislike a 4. I gave this movie a 3. Some of the visuals were pretty good, thus a 3. I think that is pretty generous, and I think an average of 5 is too high as well.

While not a great film or even one of the best action films out there, I also think it is a better film than many set it out to be. I think most who rated it low were expecting a closure to everything that happened and, since that didn't happen, they got angry. There are many people who are incapable of using even a little bit of imagination out there.
This is not a signature! -

I agree, I saw it a couple nights ago on cable and was expecting far worse. I'd give it a 6 which is good by imdb standards. Vin Diesel won't win an academy for acting but he does have a good handle on the tough-guy, action hero role.
I hardly pay attention to the negative comments as they are generally from people who tend to 'follow the crowd'. And many of them are not only incapable of using their imagination as you said, but just incapable period. You'd often find them quoting other resources (such as rotten tomatoes) as proof of the validity of their opinion when in fact it's not hard to see (from reading their various comments), that they've missed the boat completely or that they're merely repeating what others have said. -

Not a bad idea for a movie, but suffering wretchedly from poor direction, acting and action sequences. Most definitely, a B-movie and not a good one, 4 from me and that's generous. At least Michelle Yeoh can act and perform great martial arts (though not in this movieand that about sums it up!)

Diesel falls into category of actors who are EXACTLY the same in every movie. In Vin's case 'he's the drawling tough man that you don't mess with'. He has limited star appeal, B-movie appeal. The story was OK, just found the movie chaotic and full of cardboard characters lacking any depth. Comic-strip style this sci-fi movie may have been, but the actors should embue their characters with something more than cartoon-like performances, honourable exceptions go to Melanie Thierry, Lambert Wilson (and the two cute kids at the end).
