The $3.50 at the beginning indicatess that the last cash sale was $3.50. The woman paid for her 2 packs of cigarettes with a credit card (she even had to provide a second credit card!). Niether of these transactions would show up on a cash register.

I've worked in retail for many years, and no matter how something is being paid for (credit card, cash, EFTPOS etc), it's always rung up on the register. You have to do this in order to know how much money you've made for the day.
